I really wish there was an English word for art like this; there are many in other European languages that in a single word describe the sensation of seeing something savage and alarming but at the same time being compelling... Maybe there is and I'm just a dullard needing to hit up my thesaurus more often.
The surrealist nature of the tiles amid an ashen bamboo wasteland stretching off into the night is a great touch. Bravo maestro.

Love the lighting on his back and the body paint. He looks as though he is another breed of human. Amazing!

I love the use of color and texture to bring the focal point to the flayed flesh. It coincides well with the lighting, radiating out to the background, emphasizing and accentuating without taking away. Well balanced. I love it.

The best part about this is the flayed flesh effect around the edges of his shoulders and sitting across his hips. It looks so gory and real! The streaks on the floor and the texture of the paint really add to the "gross-out" factor.
And strangely enough, the finished product is beautiful!

Beautiful-yet I know I should be disturbed by the flaying of the flesh, but am not. The bamboo gives an exotic, caged feeling.
