Ah, my national emblem and a bee - what more could a man ask for.

I've always wondered how their tongues fit in their tiny heads/bodies.

Guess it's worth wondering where the tongue is when it's not used, since it looks rather stiff... I haven't the faintest

I had to Google it! It would seem that it is hinged and like aircraft undercarriage it is stowed underneath the body during flight...
