I love them too (when I'm not creeping on the ground...) ... I never saw this one before though. They are really big. Flower is about 5-8 centimeters.  Aaah, you're Scottish ...

I am indeed Scots (by birth) and definitely when it comes to rugby (even though our national team played so dreadfully in the recent 6 Nations)

Thanks ! It's called the Saint Mary's Thistle. Seems to be a healing plant, especially for people with liver problems...
