This is the tentative cover design for Hollow Fields volume two, which will be out around May 2008. It still hasn't been approved and 'tweaked' by the editors, so hopefully not too much will change, because it took me a while!Lucy's the only character from the volume one cover remaining; this time she's surrounded by Mr Croach (the creepy-looking guy with the spade), Claude (lower left), Summer (purple hair) and Carmen (freaking out). They all get a bit of page time in the next volume, that's why I picked them for the cover. The compostitional gap in the top third of the image is to allow for the title logo.
Looks like Lucy is surrounded by potential enemies in volume two!

EDIT: Daily Deviantion! Wow! Since some folks have noted me asking about the manga, here's some info!
Hollow Fields is and all-ages manga (featuring a school for junior evil geniuses) published by Seven Seas Entertainment (they also do Afro Samurai, Boogiepop, and a bunch of other mangas!).

I wonder to find the other first and last volume (i didn't find them someday.) and see more mangas if i have this oportunity.

It's got such beautiful art, and I love the design and storyline. I wish i had the money to buy all the buys you can produce.
It's truly an amazing story from the two volumes I've read.
Personally so far I like Mr. Croach, Lucy, and Doctor Bleak.

Do you hand draw these in ink, then scan into photoshop to fix the lines? I'm struggling with line quality currently. The coloring is sweet. Can that be done in Photoshop or Corel Painter?

It's funny that Hollow Fields is for all ages, but in Finland it's rated for ages 9 and forward...? Maybe the editors thought that the school subjects would scare little children, which doesn't make sense because I haven't seen any stuff that wouldn't be good for children *notimpressedplz*

Hmm, I'm not sure about that either...the rating is at the discretion of the Finnish distributor...maybe they thought it would hurt an 8 year old's brain to read it...O_O

Yeah maybe... But still in some games (Kingdom Hearts, for example), the rating is lower than it is in any other countries... I dunno, maybe those subjects in Hollow Fields sounded like an 8 year old or younger would be scared |D
