Shelloxin is based on a cone snail, also known as a cone shell, and gets its name from "shell" and "toxin". We're still in the realm of weird sea creatures that aren't Water-type. I think at the point when I was coming up with creatures like Starkle and Shelloxin, I was running out of unique animals on land, and was just sorta turning to sea creatures that could obviously have a second type alongside Water, but could also have some excuse to replace their Water-type with something else. In this case, a cone snail creature could obviously be Water/Toxic if I wanted it to be, but it gained the Metal-type instead thanks to the excuse of "what if I made its shell metal?"
