Description My first quadruped animation.

They told us at my animation course that we shouldn't run before we could walk and a horse was one of the hardest animals to animate.

But that's not a horse.

It's a pony.

Same thing! Well same walk cycle anyway. Sort of.

Other than the jumpy camera, that's not bad for a first try at a run cycle at all.

Grazie! Have you ever had a go at doing traditional animation?

I've done some traditional animation from time to time, but nothing very big aside from walk cycles and all.

Looks pretty good for a first walk/run cycle. The main issue is that it looks really shaky (I don't mean that the lines are bad or anything, I mean that the effect is as if someone shot it with a really shaky camera). I'm don't how to fix this though, since I am not an animator myself. I'm sure there's some sort of trick that you can learn to make it look more consistent.

Thanks When I made this I didn't use a lightbox (one of these [link] ) which would of kept the animation consistent.

Quick question: what type of file did you use to post it? I've tried posting my pencil tests but I can't find a file type DA recognizes.

Nice animation, though it feels a little sluggish. You may want to consider trying 24 fps.

It's a gif file, you can either use that or .swf files to upload animations. And thanks! I blame Photoshop for it being sluggish, I'm going to use Flash or Toon Boom next time for the color version i'll be uploading soon.

Oh, okay thanks.

I use Dragon when I do my pencil tests, which only works with QuickTime when you export. That's probably the problem.

Keep up the good work though.

Yeah I just used Adobe Flash for the first time today, its a hell of allot better than using gifs for animating and as you can see my animation is smoother now. If you upload any of your pencil tests let me know

Hm, it still seems a little sluggish, but that might just be my computer. Still, you might want to consider raising the fps; 12 fps might flow a little better.

And I'll tell you if I can ever figure it out. I might need to upload the frames individually onto Flash, so I'll see how that goes.

Sorry for such a late reply.
