I think I see which parts are you,and I see what you mean being shy on shadows... so you could get better, that´s true.
But I also see that from that ocean of thumbnails at the pencilclub,I picked THIS picture as the most interesting, the eyecatcher, the really good stuff.
So don´t give a damn about what you´re still practising and just go on for your already has what it takes..great work.
Greetings from a European neighbor..

Hehe,dangerous..I first read "from" with a forgotten "m" instead of a twisted "for"...
Typical German thing to search for how I could feel offended,I guess.Although I had no right to be offended since I AM still a wannabe..in some ways.
In other ways I´m already a full-scale artist,AND SO ARE YOU!!
You´re too good to call yourself a wannabe, and isn´t an artist defined by what he means to say and to do more than only by his/her technical skills?
Believe me,you already ARE an artist,no matter how much better your technique could become!

Yeah...know what you mean, and of course you´re right in that way of looking.I think so about my own artwork, too.
But it cheers you up when, from time to time look at it the way Scott McCloud does:As soon as you´re drawing without any reason but just to draw,it´s art.
Which of course, would make real art quite rare if take that definition all to strict: When painting or drawing,of course I also do it for the attention,to practise, for eventual financial success and so on...but I don´t draw dragons because people like dragons,I do because ME likes dragons and if people like my pics well, that´s a bonus. So from SOME point of view....
My own definition of art would also add meaning.Do I wanna say something with my work or want my work to say something?
In that definition,I´m more a artisan than an artist.Just want my work to get better and better..but again, when drawing a big,fat dragon,I also want my picture to transport that it´s a BIG,FAT DRAGON and you wouldn´t wanna go anywhere near it in real life..so I want my work to speak, although I don´t try to let pictures describe my deep inner pain or something...
Anyway,I just assume we´re both gonna achieve our goals one day, huh?
Coming to think of it,perhaps we should talk about some collab?

Yeah..reconsidering it,I guess I didn´t really think that through.I had something like some "you draw-I paint" in mind, but I´m not sure if I´m good enough for that with someone of your skills level yet...Gotta try me out first...

Well, I don't know precisely as I started it in automn, and had mainly 3 phases on this drawing. I'd say roughly around 20 hours in 3 major sittings, and many small one ...

Great work, as always! I love how the hair and the cloth came out, the rope looks awesome, too! I think you did well with the shadows, they could be deeper but this way the drawing has a light feeling to it, and it looks just as good. I especially like the shading of her skin, you got the hand texture just right!
My point of critique would be her eyes, I think - they kind of have no real texture, they're plain grey, I think... Maybe adding a bit of shadow on the upper part of the iris, just above the pupils, and giving highlights to the pupils and the lower part of the iris would make them look a bit deeper
I just noticed that her nostrils looks a bit small-ish, but that may be the reference? In my opinion, her right nostril looks somewhat smaller than her left one...
Anyway, you did a great job there, keep it up!
By the way, I persnally do not think that "copying" another people's photos is not making art - it's just a different form of art. It may be I think so because I too take references for my art, but in my opinion, it's a kind of tribute to the original artist - his work has some meaning for us and it is reproduced in the way we see their work, not necessarily a one-to-one copy. We choose to reproduce it with our favourite kind of media, or with the one we feel it suits the original most. We focus on that what caught our attention most, and may even change some things. We see the art as an artist and we reproduce it like an artist, so the outrcome is art, too, not just a mere form of practice.
Take care!
