Description I apologize to Professor Tolkien for having my girlish fantasies in Middle-earth. U_U But I had to upload this because -- while I originally made this to satisfy myself -- it turned out to be a really neat picture, and I rarely ever do anything based on Middle-earth, much less anything that doesn't involve Smaug.

This is my usual OC Valerie standing in for me (Valerie: "Oh, how can I ever thank you?" ^^), and she is riding with Legolas Greenleaf, elven prince of Mirkwood. I still feel like I could have done better if I hadn't been pressed for time...but hey, I've gotten good at drawing and painting horsies!
I tried to match Orlando Bloom as closely as I could (which is why I put this under "movies&TV"), and I'm sorry if this doesn't look like him. I think that I came close, at least. (Didn't use any references -- just memory.)
I feel like Valerie could look better, too. I do believe I made her nose too long. I kind of feel like proportions went all over the place.

I'm fairly sure that this picture was inspired by a Loreena McKennitt song -- I just can't remember if it was Night Ride Across The Caucasus or The Old Ways. (I do love to listen to her music when I'm in the mood for Lord Of The Rings and the like.)

This drawing-painting hybrid is full of original designs -- none of which are you allowed to use. Leaves and vines were the theme for the saddles and bridles -- Valerie more vines, Legolas more leaves. (While he is a leaf or tree, she is a rose or rosebush.) Green leaves (and silver metal) went only to Legolas, of course, and exclusive to Valerie was gold colors and metals. I certainly hope I succeeded in making things that look Elvish.

I feel very shy about OCs in Middle-earth. But I'd be willing to wager that Valerie is more likeable than Tauriel. After all, Valerie is a more developed character (though still fan-made), while Tauriel strikes me more as a Mary-Sue. Sorry, Evangeline Lily -- it wasn't your fault.

...Y'know, I realized...if this was really an "elvish ride", Legolas at least would not be using a saddle or bridle. :\ Oh well, it gave me the opportunity to do more designs.

I realized something in recent years, while looking up words in the Elven language. The name "Valerie" seems to have some meaning -- "val-" meaning "power", and "er" meaning "one" or "alone". ("ie" could just be a pretty way of ending a girl's name.) Happy coincidence. So that would be "The One Power"? "The Lone Power"?

Dang Corel Painter, making the colors I use seem more warm in tone than they really were....

Very pretty.  I like the differences you made in the individual saddles/bridles.  That was a very nice touch. And the way you did the background gives the whole thing an ethereal, dreamlike quality.

On another note, I finally did post that dragon I mentioned, if you wanted to see it.

Thanks. When it comes to Middle-earth, I try to be as creative as those who worked on the Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit trilogies.
And I was certainly aiming for that with the background (after all, this is a very 'in your dreams' kind of thing), though as I was making it I wasn't exactly sure as to how I would achieve it.
(And sorry about being crappy with replies lately.)

It turned out beautifully, and I made sure to show it to one of my LOTR-obsessed friends, and he thought it was great, too.

(No worries about the replies.  God knows I can be pretty darn lazy about them, myself.)
