Iolite has one of my favourite aesthetics mostly because I used a lot of oceanic Viking compass stuff as inspiration for her. It's kind of unfortunate because she's pretty much the main antagonist for the major part of my gems' stories, and she's definitely not the type to change.

She is/used to be Onyx 's supervisor, and was the pilot/navigator/manager of her ship's crew. Because she's a relatively new gem, Iolite is sort of a jack of all trades despite lacking in a lot of magic, since Homeworld is running low on resources.

This one was a lot of fun to do and I kind of really like how it came out. c: Iolite is pleochroistic, meaning when its viewed from different directions it can appear a completely different colour, typically ranging between greyish yellow, blue, and purple or deep indigo. Though with another pleochroistic mineral, tanzanite, this video gives a really obvious example of what I mean. It may not be rotating in this art piece, but I did try to include some variation of those three colours.

Another cool fact about iolite (referred to as cordierite in mineralogy) is that, because of how it can determine the direction of polarization, the Vikings allegedly used it to see where the sun was even on the most overcast of days, allowing them to navigate out on the sea! (Hence the "oceanic Viking compass stuff" I mentioned before. ^^)
