The opinions of the actors aren't the same as the intentions of the creator, though, and Pen Ward has said at multiple conventions that he doesn't want for Finn, PB, or Marcy to date each other, and he's already shot down two of those ships, leaving only PB and Marcy.
I get why people like the ship so much. PB and Marcy do have chemistry. I'm just not sure that that chemistry will ever extend beyond friendship.

It's not that it will happen, it's that it *did* happen. In the past. They used to date. That's it.
It's been implied multiple times in the comics (*and* the show. Bubblegum smelling Marcy's tshirt? I'll leave it at that), and Mr.Ward did tell Olivia, one of the actress, that it was a thing. In the past.
Will it ever be canon as in *in the show explicitly said canon*? No. Because it's a "kid show".Β

Okay, so, Pen Ward stated that he doesn't want a relationship between the two, then goes back and says that the reason is because they already had one off cam? also, the comics technically aren't canon yet.
Well, I guess that makes a lot of things make sense. Like Marcy's song "I'm just your problem" which was written after Rebecca Sugar went through a bad break up. It also explains why Pen Ward insists that PB is too much of an emotionless robot to be in a relationship. I guess Marcy wanted something that she wasn't getting, so the two split?
I dunno, man. To be honest, I really just want to let the show go wherever it goes and make no assumptions until those things happen. I find it usually tends to work out better for me that way. I mean, I love theorizing. I love the idea that, Finn still being so bunked up over FP, Marcy would make him a one-time offer to help him get over it. I like the idea that PB would be super frustrated about that. I like a lot of ideas and theories and whatnot. But I try not to get my hopes up, you know? As I stated, I get why so many people like PB and Marcy, because the two clearly do have chemistry together. But, like I also stated, I just don't know if they'll ever be anything more than friends. Maybe it's because Marcy knows what will happen if they try. Maybe it's because PB just doesn't care. Or maybe it's because the two genuinely feel better about a simple friendship. Again, I just don't know.
also, more shows should probably start taking after Steven Universe. That's neither a good or bad thing, I just think that network censorship is stupid.
