Yes, I'm aware that I've over-used certain poses in the past.

It might have somethin to do with her (the artist) being the Judge's girl friend.
I'm glad you liked the little touches I added to the background. So far I've yet to find anyone who liked the other image over this one, which only serves to reaffirm the rumors that I heard. Thanks for taking the time to look at this image and leave a comment.

Yeah. Fun Fact. Every single colored image in my gallery was done in Flash. It's FAR more versatile than many thought, and I can still remember how people were telling me to not use it when I was first learning to color and ink and whatnot.

I know it's not a perfectly accurate Karate pose (I was never very good at it). I don't care. Thanks for saying nothing useful about the art for improvements or otherwise, you said the same thing when you saw the pencil line art before it was colored.
I will never use LJ, for a long list of reasons. It would serve me no purpose to be there.

Cute! Love the colors and you perspective, like with the room-is awesome. As a "karate girl" myself I gave 2 thumbs up!

I tend to naturally use bright colors in my images as they're easier to work with. Until one has tried it you can't begin to appreciate how hard it is to do 2-Tone cell shading with any color near black. As for the perspective, actual rooms are never seen with isometric dimensions with the human eye, even if they actually have them. To have good backgrounds they need to be drawn as they are seen rather than as they actually are. And as someone who practices karate I thank you for not being the 100th person to point out that the pose is slightly off.

I can't see why this wasn't selected Clovis? The judges must have had something in mind before the contest. Your character is well designed, you promote the product prominently in your drawing, and it's got action and humor (not goofy, mind you). Honestly what more could they want?

Apparently it's not anime enough for them. And someone my image doesn't convey a sense of doom and despair they want their convention to illicit so that people will know that it surely must be an 'Extreme Hardcore Kickass Conventions to the Max'. Don't worry about it, I'm not all that worried. I still had fun making it. That and I know that the winner is the judge's girlfriend, and I can't quite compete with that no matter how good of an artist I am. So don't worry about it.

Thanks! I never thought I'd be getting an art comment from the equivalent of DA-Royalty. I've always known my art was a tab bit cartoonish compared to some people's, but I'm okay with that. Each and everyone of us has to draw how we want to for any of us to be happy. Besides, and this is including people I know will tell me if they don't like something of mine, I've yet to find someone who liked better the picture they chose to use over mine. Sorry if I'm rambling a bit here, thanks for commenting!

Ha ha ha I love the little sign "WARNING: Kicking in the door is not an acceptable means of opening it"
You always throw in these small details that make pictures really great. Once again, very bold, stylish shading. She looks really tough. I wouldn't want to anger her. Too bad it was rejected -- oh well, sometimes people just have something in mind and artists acan't always anticipate what exactly it is.

After talking more with the 'client' I am not even sure he knows what it is he wants either. I am honored that you can see that I was trying to interject here a sense that this is someone you should want to anger ever if you could help it (like requested), which is something I don't get from the real winner. Also, thanks for the comment on the shading as it has taken me quite some time to get to a point where I don't have to spend hours thinking about how to shade something (or perhaps, rather, hours shading and reshading because I'm never satisfied). As for things like the sign, well they're just more fun to make that way and they help fill up space in the background (you don't want empty spots in your background, or they can become distracting from the main character amazingly enough).

Thank you. I tried really hard to give tbis image a strong sense of life to it after some accused me of being incapable of being an artist (not only now, but also forever) and that my images would always be lifeless. Don't worry, I'm not too worried about that persons's comments anymore (despite the fact I was very upset at them when it first happened). As for the subtitles, I like text in images that isn't quite what you'd normally expect. I appreciate your comment.

basically, I like yours a whole lot more.
in fact, great job! It just looks all around great! and also pretty darn alive (which you supposedly have trouble with sometimes? XDDD) Anyway, sometimes its actually your backgrounds that look stiff (um, geometrical?), not the drawings! But this one looks great.

That tends to be because all of my backgrounds are drawn without reference within flash itself using the straight line tool predominantly and it's very easy to forget that an actual perspective isn't actually isometric (the perfectly straight lines don't exactly help much either). Of course, there's also the fact that it's really easy to not make an interesting background.

Entirely in Flash! I tried to make images with Flash and have a lots of problem connecting lines (even if they look like they touch each other, color fill still goes over them or doesn't work).
It is a very fun, neat and colorful piece you have here. I fav this one.
