Description So here is a picture of a sculpture that I did for my Introduction to Sculpture class at CSULB. This thing is about 45 lbs, 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide, the actual sculpting only took me like 10 hours, but everything around it has taken me much longer. This is built on top of a wooden skeletal armature which took about 40-60 hours. Normally I would have built a clay armature inside to give support after the piece was fired, but the assignment called for me to build on top of a prior project, so the plan was to make a rubber mold of this and then pour a plaster/glue mixture into the mold. Unfortunately this piece didn't survive the molding process. I didn't want to spend the money on RTV so I attempted to thin out silicone caulking with NAPTHA. As you can imagine, this thing had tons of undercuts and required a complicated multi-piece mold. I didn't use enough plaster for the mother mold and lost the water based clay sculpture. I did enjoy the sculpt though and think I will re-visit this design one day.
