Description I've had this lineart sitting around for almost a year, so I finally made myself color it. I drew this when I was still recovering from a pretty terrible slump, so it has a lot of problems, but I thought it was worth finishing up.

It's a "fix" for the mess Joss Whedon left in Astonishing X-Men, because seriously? Kitty Pryde, stuck in a space bullet for all eternity? Ugh. I figured that Rachel could take a detour from her space pirate adventures to free her best friend from such a ridiculous predicament.

I have NO idea where I got that version of Ray's costume. But awwwww. ♥ I miss them. I'll try and find occasion to draw them again soon.

(Photoshop and I are still on the outs, I see. I almost wish I'd left these colors flat.)

Vast improvement on canon. In fact, this is now my personal canon, because the Joss'd version is too cruel.

I really like the close up panel at the end, it's lovely.

Thanks! It's definitely my personal canon too; since I'm kind of estranged from Marvel again, I can just keep right on pretending.

Totally gorgeous and touching even out of context

I love Joss but damn, what a horrid ending for her! I like yours better.

Aw, thank you.

I have a lot of extreme emotions about Whedon's work--I love some, I loathe some--but the end of his run on Astonishing was definitely firmly in the latter category.

Welcome!

And I can obviously understand that, though I usually like his work more than not.....except for what he did to Tara in Buffy. Bastard.

Damn you, Whedon! It's worse enough that he messed up Runaways.

Whedon's good for a gimmick issue or two, but I wish they wouldn't let him make lasting changes, because it doesn't go well. >

Mind you, I feel pretty strongly that Runaways should have been a creator-owned book. I'm less irritated at any of the individual creators (who took over after Vaughn/Alphona) than at the whole situation.

Awesome, glad you thought it was a stupid as I do. Maybe Marvel will see it and have an idea.

Man, I wish they would do something like this. I'm feeling really put off by the whole company lately (and dropping both of my favorite characters off into limbo really doesn't help with that).

Hopefully being under the umbrella of the Mouse will elicit a change for the better. Perhaps it'll be Quesada loaded into a bullet and shot into space...

You know, that was actually my first thought (the better part, not the Quesada in space part . . . though those are hardly mutually exclusive). But I'm a bit doubtful that much will change either way, to be honest.

True. More's the pity.

Stuck in a space bullet????

Weak....

I know, right? Some alien race sent a GIANT SPACE BULLET at Earth, and the only way to stop it was to have Kitty phase the whole thing - and then she couldn't get out again.

I liked a lot of Whedon's earlier work on the series, but by the time it ended I was just completely irritated.

I've never seen Firefly, but now i don't like this Wheedy person!

I guess he was assuming that some later writer would save her. Comic characters always come back.

Ha, I keep making people dislike him. He drives me nuts, because I love so much of his work . . . but when he sucks, he sucks so damn hard.

Well, if he was, I'm sure he's right. (Probably sooner rather than later, given Kitty's personality.) It was still incredibly stupid, though.
