Description General
Name: Shin Shisoka
Alias: The Specter
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Date of Birth: October 11th
Place of Origin: Shibuya, Japan
Occupation: UA headmaster, Pro Hero (retired, rank 3 before retirement)

History:

Shin Shisoka was born a cripple. After a problematic childbirth his body was afflicted with several deformities, trapping him in bed for the early years in his life before his quirk manifested. Unable to so much walk or lift more than the lightest of objects on his own, Shin grew up doing a lot of reading. He loved all types of books, fantasy, scientific, historical, anything that could occupy his mind while he sat in bed doing nothing.

It wasn't long before Shin had developed his mind to be one of the smartest men in Japan, the lack of any activity other than reading and learning new things naturally led to it. This served him well once he manifested his quirk at the age of 8. His deformed and crippled body was a late bloomer for manifesting, but it paid off in spades once it finally did. Shin soon found himself in possession of one of the strongest psychic type quirks in the world, unrivaled by the mere telekinesis or mind reading capabilities of lesser psychics. He could use telekinesis, telepathy, mind reading, illusions, and even mental suggestion/compulsion (though he avoided using that particular power as best he could, having moral objections to it). It was as if his mental abilities had developed proportionately to compensate for his physical disabilities, granting him a way to interact with the world around him.

Most notable of all in his repertoire of abilities, however, was his psychic projection ability. While he was not immediately capable of this, Shin learned to create a physical body of condensed mental energy for his consciousness to interact with the world more directly than ever. This mental form of his was liberating for Shin, it allowed him to physically touch, taste, see, and hear the world he lived in for himself, rather than being stuck in bed for his whole life. He got to go out into the world and make friends, play games, and live life in ways he never could before. For the first few years of this he never really thought about the additional benefits of his false body. After an incident with a villain holding him and his friends hostage however, Shin realized the true potential he possessed with the body he could create for himself at will.

Allowing his form to dissipate and reform, Shin escaped his bonds, his first experiment with the ethereal nature of the body. Next he experimented with dispersing his body and forming it elsewhere, which he succeeded in doing. Using this discovery and his other abilities he was able to break himself and his friends out of the cells they'd been thrown in, leading to the demise of the villain shortly thereafter due to his losing the hostages.

After this point Shin realized just how much potential as a hero he had. His psychic projection body was essentially immortal, it could form wherever it was needed, so long as Shin had a visual of the place, it could utilize his array of abilities to stop crime and protect people, and so long as nobody ever found out about his real body no villains would ever be able to get rid of him.

And so began Shin's illustrious career as a hero, after attending a hero academy with his psychic projection body, he took to the streets as a hero, achieving great success and fame in cities around Japan. His body could look like whatever he wanted it to, so he made sure to keep himself looking attractive and cool even in the midst of battle so that people could both admire him in a PR sense and be reassured by his untarnished appearance in battle. It wasn't too hard for him to become the 3rd ranked hero in Japan despite having some severe limitations. When it came to large cities, he found he had a lot of blind spots. His telepathic sense of people around him only extended so far, extending even less when his psychic body was the one doing the sensing. So if he didn't have video footage of a crime, and couldn't sense it, he couldn't effectively make it to the scene of a crime. In many cities this was fine, but larger cities like Tokyo began to prove difficult to manage.

Then there was the fact that hiding his location was growing more difficult the more prominent he became. He was making enemies, and a lot of them, and many were able to read his quirk registry and know that teleportation was not one of his abilities. Despite this he was appearing in multiple locations in short spans of time with seemingly no transit time. Villains began to connect the dots and get smarter about evading him, and even smarter when it came to hunting him. He needed to be transferred to various safe-houses frequently, and it began to take its toll on his health.

Shin soon came to the conclusion that his fame was interfering with his ability to help people. Staying active as a hero would just get himself killed when a villain finally tracked him down, and possibly hurt others as well if one of his enemies got good enough at avoiding him to get away with their crimes while other heroes assumed he had things under control himself.

After much debate, Shin retired from being a Pro Hero and instead took up a position as headmaster of UA academy, the very academy he had once attended himself. With his abilities and intellect, he figured it was the best way to help others, by overseeing the growth of, and protecting young rising heroes from a safe place. There were no blind spots at the academy, and no villain would find his real body there without going through him first. Shin would still occasionally handle crimes in the world at large, but spent most of his time focused on the academy grounds.

Physical
Visual Appearance:
Height: Typically 5'10" (real body 5'2")
Weight: Typically 140lbs (real body 100lbs)
Physical Appearance: Shin's psychic body can look just about however he wants it too, but for consistency's sake he tends to keep his black hair, brown eyes, and pale skin. His height and weight vary more often, as he will often increase or decrease them for theatrical effects in order to keep people in line without needing to use any abilities
Clothing: Shin tends towards his usual headmaster garm of a dress shirt, brown vest, and glasses
Outfit: N/A

Personality
General Personality: Shin is a very level-headed, practical individual in most regards. When he has things to do he gets them done quickly and efficiently... which leaves him plenty of time to act how he pleases the rest of the time. He loves to spend his time reading, helping his students, and enjoying as many experiences as he can regardless of what they may be. He never truly outgrew the part of him that felt trapped by his weak and crippled body, and liberated by the freedom of his psychic body, and lives enthusiastically. His own situation and abilities give him great empathy for others, leading to him acting like a father or older brother to many students, helping them with problems and giving sage advice when he can. Despite his kind personality, he has a frightening temper when angered. He is slow to anger, but uses his abilities to make himself very intimidating when he does lose his cool. This has helped him maintain order in the academy, as nobody who sees his temper ever want to risk invoking it again... which is fine with Shin, who doesn't like needing to lose his cool regardless

Likes: Reading, helping others, trying new things
Dislikes: Feeling trapped, needing to lose his temper and discipline others, villains, those who mock the disabled
Fears: Shin fears two things more than anything... almost to the point of paranoia, one is a villain getting to his real body and leaving him helpless, the second is somehow becoming trapped in his real body again. The feeling of being contained in a crippled body, or even remembering that feeling, is enough to give Shin a near panic attack.
Motivation: Living life vicariously, helping others

Abilities
Quirk Type: Emitter

Quirk: Psychic Being - Shin has unparalleled psychic capabilities. He can do everything from telekinesis to mind reading, illusions, and minor mind control (though this ability was never properly developed due to Shin disliking it, and as such he can only give mental suggestions to influence others, or compel them to commit a single act, such as to cease fighting or to be quiet), as well as being able to create a physical form to project his mind into.

It is this psychic body that is the core of his abilities as a hero. The body is effectively indestructible, as it is not his real body and can be reformed at will. It can effectively teleport simply by being dispelled and reforming where it is needed, and can take on various sizes and shapes, as well as acting as a conduit for his other abilities. The body can also move quite rapidly without actually teleporting, as it moves not with actual muscles, but through Shin's willpower. In order to form the body in a new place however Shin needs some sort of visual feed of where it will form, either through his own eyes, a video camera, or the eyes of his psychic body. Visual feeds become useless for him after 10 seconds of the feed ending, meaning he needs a live image of the place he wants to form the body in.

Drawbacks: Shin's real body is his primary weakness, when his mind is projected into his false body his real body is in an almost comatose state, and even if his mind is in his real body, the body is crippled and defenseless except for his mental powers. He keeps the body locked away under tight security measures to ensure this doesn't become an issue, but the fact remains that anyone, even a quirkless person with a weapon, could defeat him by simply killing his real body while his mind was away.

The psychic body that Shin relies on also has limitations. He needs a live visual of a location to form it in said location, making it easy to escape his notice in many places, and his psychic abilities, while still powerful, are not quite as effective when channeled through the fake body as they are in his real one... particularly when it comes to sensing others, foresight, and telepathy.

His psychic body is also quite weak in terms of strength and durability. While it can take any amount of damage and reform, it is closer to an illusion than it is to a real body, this means that in terms of physical strength he can't exert much more than a quirkless human with his body type, and almost any amount of damage is enough to disrupt his body. When the body is disrupted Shin has to focus to reform it, which usually entails abandoning whatever other illusions, telekinetic forces, or other abilities he had been using previously. He can multitask for minor damage like scrapes and minor cuts, but any solid hit on him can force him to reform and abandon what he had been doing.

Shin's own personality and objectives also serve as a limiter for him, as he dislikes using certain aspects of his powers such as his mental compulsion ability. He also has effectively shot himself in the foot by having become as famous as he used to be, having now tied himself to UA academy and the surrounding city in his efforts to conceal the nature of his real body's existence from those who would exploit that weakness to settle their scores with him.

Fighting Style: Shin avoids fighting at all when he can help it, and is not much of a fighter overall, but when his hand is forced he relies on telekinesis to hurl objects around, illusions to disorient foes, and his body's properties to keep him in the fight.

Combat abilities

Strength -  weak/average, Shin’s real body is a cripple, frail and weak, barely able to lift its own arms and press buttons to control the life support and security systems that sustain him and allow him to monitor the academy. His psychic projection body is not quite as weak however, instead having the average strength of a human whose body type matches the body type his projection is taking the form of. This does allow him to indirectly increase his strength by taking on a body with more muscle mass and size, however his body can still be dispersed easily even if he takes on a “stronger” form, so it’s rather pointless for him to engage in direct combat without simply using his psychic powers to simulate physical strength

Speed – nonexistent/Legendary, Shin’s real body is incapable of walking or moving properly, however his psychic body has no actual limit on how fast it can move other than what his mind can comprehend. Because the body is not truly physical in nature, it is only loosely bound by gravity, air resistance, and other factors that would otherwise set a maximum speed for another human. Even without teleporting by dispersing and reforming his body elsewhere, Shin can move the body at speeds that defy explanation in the eyes of those unaware of the body’s nature. He essentially moves at the speed of thought.

Technique – Legendary, with Shin’s intellect, mastering techniques, fighting styles, and skillsets is second nature to him. He’s mastered countless different fighting styles, techniques, weapons, and more already, and even if he encounters one that he has yet to learn, he can quickly learn it by observing the person using the unfamiliar technique, getting a general sense of their moves, and borrowing from his knowledge of other techniques to fill in the blanks and complete his knowledge, learning the new skill over the course of a battle.

Intelligence – Legendary, Shin is second to none in his mental prowess, having done nothing but develop his mind throughout the majority of his life, there isn’t a man or woman alive who can surpass him in sheer intellect. Having become a leading expert in countless scientific disciplines, a tactical genius, a world renowned author and an accomplished inventor, there’s little he hasn’t studied, and little he hasn’t become an expert in. He isn’t perfect however, having gained a bloated ego over the years. After being the smartest man on Earth for so long, he’s become overconfident in his abilities and can still be deceived and outwitted simply by being subtle enough that he doesn’t suspect any deception. He can quickly see through any tricks that he takes notice of, but his arrogance gives him blind spots for his enemies to exploit.

Endurance – Superior, due to his psychic body being effectively immortal and unable to actually take damage, one would think Shin’s endurance to be near infinite. This isn’t entirely true however, as using his psychic abilities does take a toll on his stamina. The intense focus required to use large scale psychic abilities like holding up a collapsing building drain his mental stamina, and being forced to use too much power for too long can fatigue him. It takes quite a bit for him to reach the point where his performance deteriorates, but his stamina is not unlimited, and he can indeed be pushed to and beyond it.

Quirk Mastery – Legendary/superior, seeing as his only way to interact with the world is through his quirk, Shin has naturally developed a level of mastery over most of his abilities that is on an entirely different level than most heroes. This level of absolute mastery of his abilities does not apply to every application of them however. Due to his viewing of his ability to invade, influence, and control the minds of others to be immoral, he has shied away from developing it properly. For practical reasons he did eventually develop and achieve a great deal of skill with these abilities, so that he could use them when he needs to for the greater good. Even so, his reluctance to use them leads to his mastery being sub-par compared to his other powers. That being said, due to the sheer strength of his power, even his lesser abilities are still leagues above most people.
