No Problem!
I'm sure that you'll be able to
do something as good as this someday.
It might even come out better than this, who knows.

Alright, I promised CC, now I'm home, I have my tablet, so you have some CC!
First of all, see how the feeling of the image changes drastically if you mirror it. The huge monster and it's tentacle
almost automatically blocks the viewers... view from wandering out.
ALMOST I'll come back to that later.
I've increased brightness and contrast by a tad in the second picture; you said you thought it was generally to dark,
but that is not the case at all; in fact I love how the both airships and the bridge are almost just their silhouettes
and you need to look really closely to see the detail, and every light adds more detail to them.
It is just that the contrast to the background could have been a bit more
In the third picture, I've tried to show all obvious lines in the composition.
First of all, note how the lines of the two big airships go towards the same point and concentrate there; that is already awesome!
Then you have the ships, the bridge and the tentacle that give upward lines(downward lines in the original, but it works too;
Note how in the mirrored version, it feels more "positive" that they are flying there,
in the original it feels more "dreadful", but it works both because again your composition is already really need.
You see how up and downwards lines balance each other, that's why mirroring works so well)
BUT if mirrored or not, one thing that I'd do is pushing the face of the monster and it's down-line tentacle more to the right;
since that would be more in the position where the lines focus, it would keep the viewer in MORE there is too much space for exploration behind that
nice wall the bridge and tentacle build for the eye.
It otherwise would put the monster perfectly in scene ^.^
Last but not least, the one thing my art teacher always bugged me with; triangles. or to be precise,
optical triangles, items that are similar and build some kind of triangle that makes a picture more dynamic
to look at and to ALSO keep the view in. You have a nice line of three small spaceships, but the one
that sticks out more is the triangle formed by the three most bright colorfully lightened spots.
You have a nice triangle there that, as said above, make it more dynamic
So conclusion: Really awesome composition, a bit more contrast to the background next time,
and the monster a tad to the right (to the left in the original non mirrored image), and you
got yourself a rock-paper-scissors safe composition
Hope that helped!
One more question; I kinda just did that for fun and because I wanted to help, but the people
in the goup I'm in (project comment) actually would like to see me doing criticism like that,
so would you be fine with me posting a link to that huge wall of a CC comment?
Might get some extra views, but I just wanna know if you are comfy with that

Woooow.. I wasn't expecting this much *-* it's really appreciated Thank youuu!!
Β
Mirroring>> That's honestly how it was for the first 1/4 of making it, but then it just flipped when using brushes and I kept it, as it became mor 'natural' to see it that way through constant viewing if that makes sense:3 But now I'm staring at the flipped one a lot more, so I think you're definitely onto something there!!
So a brighter background for silhouettes, noted! ^-^
(yayay someone realised it was a bridge, aww yeah c: )
Β
I'm not sure what upward and downward lines are for, in relation to composition, so I'll look into that, as that seems like something that I should know about.
(it's a bit hard to edit now, seeing as I merged majority of the layers, but I will take to heart what you have said about spacing.
How come your art teacher gave good advice (
"items that are similar and build some kind of triangle that makes a picture more dynamic"
That's really good info that I would have loved to know at GCSE, but ohhh no, our teacher just sat there shouting >.< Did you take art any further by anychance?
Thank you for the triange compliments (entirely a fluke *hush*)
I think from all this, you've really have gone truly into depth, but I don't plan anything at all xD All those composition lines are a pure fluke ^-^ But I really appreciate the comments, like you have no idea. thank you ! Notes have been duely made!!
I'd be more than happy for you to! Share away xD With comments like that, I think they'd be more than impressed ^-^ (free views?? what is that xD )

XD If it's a fluke, then even better, because that means you naturally have an eye, or rather a feeling for how things should be!
Naaaah. Naaaaah.
Naaaaaah. My art teacher was... a peculiar older lady. (I will just take that chance for venting, please forgive me ^.^')
She knew a lot about history and the like, but it is the usual you hear; not supportive of cartoons and anime, quite conservative,
but I actually had splendid grades!
Which was actually what annoyed me, she tende to criticise everything unhelpfully, at some point all was anime where no living beings
were even in the picture, she complained that things were to dark or nothing they could put up on display (As if i cared about
being displayed pffffffft, but it felt bad having grown ups so...IMAGE orientated) I really stopped caring for what I drew and were just zoning off,
doing what she wanted to and just doing it as exercise.
And there was STILL more criticism, and she was angry EVERY time she collected all things and gave open criticism for all to improve which
would be a REALLY great and helpful move if not everyone felt like rolling their eyes and I like disappearing so that this routine wouldn't
annoy everyone -.- And despite all that, I shared best grades in class with one of her favourite girls
(that girl was actually really talented and kind, and always worked hard to improve,so she deserves it!)
Despite not caring what I did - while others poured their heart into their works, would have loved some good
critique and just didn't get the attention and the grades they deserved.
I feel like sometimes, the teacher forgot that she wasn't a judge comparing the pieces by quality,
but a teacher that should observe and care carefully and should grade the work and improvement.
So that's my art teacher XD
Now while stuying I actually have two really great art teachers. They are both anti-anime as well,
but absolutely great at teaching and judging by personal skills and improvement, which is great.
Yeeeah I study something that gently touches a variety of topics, including physics, maths, programming, art, video and photography and design,
so I get a tad of knowledge of everything but need to improve it all by myself. I really like it Feels like an open minded
thing to study, because you can later understand all of it a little and manage a team better than someone that thinks
f.ex. his employes need 4 weeks for the art, but the programming can be done by tomorrow or the other way round.
So yeah, lines that go upward or downward; I have no idea how you would translate that theory into english, my german professor wrote
a book about that. I'll just read it up, and try some translating and fail horribly, but then you won't have to look
Quote:"Diagonalen sind Leitlinien fΓΌr das Auge. So wirkt eine Diagonale von links oben nach rechts unten passiv, eine von links unten nach rechts oben durch ihre AufwΓ€rtsbewegung aktiv."Quote end.
Dioganal lines are leading lines to the eye. A diagonal line from the upper left to the lower right feels passive, a line from the lower left to the upper right feels more active since it moves up.
I took an example out of the book and scribbled around in it (doesn't belong to me, not for distribution blah blah you know the drill) to
give you an example XD
Criticism Help Book Quote
Funnily enough, if you are from a country where you read from the right to the left, the image would need to be mirrored to keep the eye in again.
Lines that go up would be perceived as lines that go down and vice versa, unless that person would read another language like
english as well.
All right, but that is DEFINITELY all for this time, I won't annoy you any further XD
Also, it is just what I was taught, so there might be more to it or less than I have learned.
Have a great day and thanks a bunch!

Or just a pure coincidence
Haha, nothing to be forgiven
Maybe she just realllly hated anime XD (edit later - seems pretty obvious she doesn't like it at all xD at least your teacher didn't hate half the class because of what they had between their legs.. |: weird days)
If you're able to keep up, then you've got clear skill that your teacher noticed! Even if she wasn't the nicest:3 but yes, you got a teacher who could teach!! Wooo :3
How long did you study art with those two teachers if you don't mind me asking?
Oh no's, excluding physics (I gave up and moved to graphics/animation after 3 weeks XD), we do the same O.O
You shouldn't have said, now you're going to be bugged about them XD
What programming languages do you know/experienced? :3
I see what you mean, more openminded you are, the better you are at time management and knowing what to expect from your weakest member, and how to get the most out of them. ^-^
(That moment when your 2 years of German lessons only helps with little of the text xD)
It's strange how different 'directions' show different emotions/expressions, that's got me curious as to how that works.. O.o hmmm, research time.
So basically, my picture works in arabic countries but not L2R countries XD ah well, c'est la vie. :3
Haha, you really haven't annoyed me, if anything I'm annoying you with more questions.. MWAHAHAHA sorry (not sorry) ^-^
Anytime, you are more than welcome >> feel free to pm me sometime for more spam

Oh damn, you mean she hated boys? Meh, that's kinda superficial, especially for a teacher ^.^'
Only for two semesters, I'm in my third semester now, I can kinda specialise later in the
next semesters, but I want to do ALL and can't XD
It is only very basic courses though, and because of spare time I visited those lessons
already, so I believe I can't go any more in depth at uni. After all it's a bachelor
of science, not arts :/ I'd wish for more arts though XD That's where DA comes in,
it's quite wondrous what people you can find ^.^ I learn a lot through the help of nice
and supportive people and self studies, and I was lucky enough to end in a corner of DA where the
cool crazy weird people dwell
I hope to still improve a lot!
Ooooooooooooooh you do animation? I try to slowly work myself into it by animating a dream.
That will probably turn out nnnnot as well as I'd ever wish, but I'll have some learning process
going on for once XD
"> feel free to pm me sometime for more spamΒ Β " same goes to you!

You have no idea >.< But yeah, that's why I never took it further. Ah well, not that it was anything like what I do now anyway xD
Hahaha, just make sure to say 'YES' to as many things as you can get your hands on then :3 Grab what you can and walk away with as much experience as possible
Yeah there are some right weirdos on DA sometimes, I mean, who has 3 letter initials as their icon, what ingenuity...... xD
If you want to look for more people to stalk look at, I recommend Ryke as someone to look at for tutorials, not exactly the same style as either of us, but you can easily apply their techniques to anything else
Nothing fancy! Just a dabble in Blender, but most of the time is spent in Flash. Much to learn, little time/experience Ah well :3
Small steps with animation, you're already fine on the basics so it's now just practise, using more layers and messing about
^-^
