Amorous Love Chapter 5: New Job

A few more band practices had passed since Nicholas had discovered that he really liked Skye. The fosky wasn’t sure when he would tell the vixen though. He figured for now it was just best to wait awhile. However Skye kept coming over for these practices. And the long-haired male noticed the band member Darcy was always looking at him with amusement like she knew. Luckily these didn’t happen too often as Kane the wolf kept the band members working hard enough to keep them distracted from everything else other than the music. The lupine wasn’t sure when a gig would happen; not because of where to find one, but when the band would be ready. He hoped in a couple of months since they had made great progress already.

Right now it was a Monday and Nicholas had gotten back home from during some errands for his step-dad. “I’m home!” the male called out. Nobody answered and the guy shrugged. Coby was out with others. Just then his cellphone went off. Nicholas looked, thinking it was Kane or Skye. Instead he saw it was the number of a place he had given a resume. He answered. “Nicholas speaking.”

“Hello Nicholas?” went a second male voice. “We’ve gone over your resume and we’d like you to come in for an interview.”

“Really?” the male asked, his tail wagging with excitement. “Thank you very much! I know someone beside me will be pleased!”

“Who will be?” asked a third male voice that was a bit stern. The first guy looked to see Coby’s dad standing there. The older male avian was a little taller and his feathers were a lighter shade of blue than his biological son and the lower face and chest were white along with the forearms.

Nicholas held up a finger. “I can come in as soon as you want me to,” the fosky told the other person on the line. He paused a minute “Right, ten o’clock works for me. Thank you, and I’ll see you then.” The guy hung up.

The fosky noticed the avian’s eyebrows were tensing up, suspecting something. “It’s nothing bad at all dad,” Nicholas said. He had no problem calling his step-father that. His mother had remarried when the fosky was young enough. “In fact, you might want to get mom in here to.”

Soon Nicholas’s mother, a vixen was with his fur and hair color, but with different eyes were sitting in the living room. “So what is it?” she asked.

“I’m going in for an interview tomorrow!” Nicholas stated.

“Honey, that’s great!” the mother vixen replied.

“About damn time,” Coby’s dad said. “At least you seem to be on the right track unlike a couple months ago.”

“If anyone should be thanked it’s Coby,” the fosky commented. “He invited me out to this club and I met someone there. We’ve hung out and I ran into an old acquaintance from high school. Thanks to these three, I feel that way as well.”

“Well I’m happy for you,” his mother commented.

“Just as long as you don’t spend your time moping around,” the older male said. “So then while we’re on the subject, what have these other two done for you to help?”

“Well I guess I should tell you now. The old acquaintance is Kane. You might remember me talking about him. Well he ran into me at the mall with the other person I met and he told me about this audition for this band he was forming. I’ve gotten into it so that’s why I’ve been heading out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays to go to the practices.”

“Oh that’s also wonderful!” Nicholas’s mother stated. “I remember how much you sang and loved it in high school! When’s the first gig?”

“We don’t know yet,” her son replied.

“What about the other person?”

“Well… let’s just say they’re interested in a good way.” Nicholas didn’t want to tell his folks about Skye just yet. It wasn’t because of her age but how they might react. “In any case, I need to get some stuff ready for that interview tomorrow.”

“Wait a moment,” Coby’s dad stated. “I need to just say something to you alone.” His wife got the hint leaving the two males alone.

“I hope you’re not plaining to live in our house forever you know,” the older male stated.

“No dad,” the fosky replied. The avian then smiled.

“You know I can see how much happier you are. I’ll need to thank my son. I expect you to do well.” The guy then left, leaving Nicholas a bit stunned.

“He just complimented me…” the long-haired male thought. Nicholas then smiled and went to the room he and Coby shared to figure on what to wear for that interview tomorrow.

The next day the fosky made his way down to one of the food stores and walked inside. He found somebody that ended up taking him to the main office where the manager of the place operated from. The interview went great and Nicholas got the job. He told his new boss about band practice which wouldn’t be a problem since that left Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays free. The fosky did tell the other band members but told them not to tell Skye. Nicholas for some reason felt a little embarrassed, probably due to the outfit he would have to wear; an apron colored black. The male felt it wasn’t his style. Kane was totally fine with the job since Nicholas could have his job and make it to the band practice.

The guy was in the following Wednesday and settling in nicely at the work place. He found it to not be bad or that hard at all. Nicholas didn’t realize how much he missed going into work honestly. True, there were points where it could be tough, but that was it for you. Nicholas met some of the co-workers and a schedule was drawn up for him. However, the biggest twist would come in on a Friday. It was around noon and Nicholas had about ten minutes before a break. The fosky was over by some shelves and putting some stuff on it to restock the products there. “That should do it,” he thought in his head.

“Wait, Nicholas?” asked a familiar voice.

“Oh no…” he groaned and turned around to find Skye standing behind him with a grin. The vixen was still in the same cosplay but soon would be doing a new look.

“It is you!” she stated. “I knew I recognized that hair anywhere.” The male was blushing as he saw the vixen’s amused look, like she watching a little kid chase their own tail. “I didn’t know you were working here!”

“Well... I am,” he replied. “Look… if you want to laugh, go ahead.”

“Why would I? You look great! Black’s a good color for you!”

“You think so? I look ridiculous in an apron like this! That’s why I didn’t tell you about this job…”

“You’re not a dork!” Skye insisted, using the same words he had once told her. “I’m just happy you got any job at all!”

“Well… thanks I guess,” Nicholas said, smiling.

“When do you get off so we can talk?” The female was told. “Oh, that’s not too much for me! I’ll see you then!”

The fosky watched her walk off, hit hard again like that time after the first band practice. When his shift was over, he found the female waiting for him. The two went to a place nearby to sit. “Yeah, so I didn’t tell you about this because of my uniform,” Nicholas said.

“It’s okay,” Skye replied. “To be honest, I can relate when it comes to other things and not wanting to say because of what others might think. So… I hope this won’t affect the band at all.”

“Of course not. I work on days when I don’t have practice. And then I might get some of those days off once I’ve worked enough. So at least if I want to go and do something like a movie I can.”

“I would hope,” the vixen commented and blushed now. “Especially since…”

She trailed off and the fosky looked to her. “Since what?” he asked.

“It’s nothing.” Skye looked back up to him with a smile. “Well, I’d better get home or my parents will wonder where I’m at.”

“I understand.”

“I hope I’ll see you at the place more,” the vixen stated.

“Want my schedule so you can come in during those times? If you do just make sure you don’t distract me too much, okay?”

“Promise.” Nicholas watched her get up and leave. However this month’s excitement wasn’t over as Kane had an announcement for the band.

“Good news guys,” the lupine said. “I’ve been looking and I think we’ve got our first gig already.”

“Really?” Darcy asked. “You think we’re ready for something like that already?”

“We’re sounding good love. It’ll be something simple. And hey, if we do suck, at least we can be together.” Everyone shared a laugh. Skye was here to so she heard this. “We’ll be playing at one of the beaches at a reasonable time at night. That way it works for Nicholas’s job and for Skye not staying out too late.”

“I’m for it,” Daniel said. “I think we’re ready to.” One by one, the rest agreed. They decided to do some simple songs and if this would be a success, it would be onto doing harder songs. Nicholas and Kane talked and figured out which they would do. Everyone practiced hard for when it would happen near the end of next month. They hoped it would be a success and maybe it would be fun to.
