In my head canon after flurry heart steps down as the next in line to inherit the throne, she decides to leave the Crystal empire in favor of ruling the harsh uncontrollable cold north and it’s inhabitants. a heart broken but understanding shining armor and cadence look to their second born, skyla as next ruler because of how along she seems to be in all her studies and how she seems to show good leader qualities just as flurry did, only it hasn’t been her who’s been excelling with every test or public appearance appointed to her but skyler. the two have been switching places since they were fairly young in favor of the others lessons. skyla originally had the idea to switch after seeing how miserable they each were after training and helped her brother come up with a illusion spell that could work without constant magic the only issue was the spell still needs you to wear or put on other elements to make yourself look more believable, you can appear to look like the other pony but genitalia, short hair/long and other elements will still be prominent so they’d still have to hide certain features with a dress or Extensions even height could give you away. thankfully the two decided to also add a horn and wing switching portion to the spell so skyler would put on a dress and makeup with Extensions and skyla would cut her hair to her brothers length and wear his armor thankfully they eventually find a much easier spell in adulthood. What started out as a way to get out of boring lessons turned into an actual passion for the two Skyla loved the idea of being able to defend her people by hoof need be if an enemy were to attack the empire and leave it without it’s magic defense, her father has even said himself that she’d be captain very soon with her skills and strategies she even agreed to her brother teaching her magical defense when the two are switched. Skyler intern also enjoyed lessons with his mother and aunt about history ancient magic and the proper ways of maintaining a kingdom while also still finding time for yourself as well as showing love for your people. they both technically rule the kingdom but skyler is officially known as king while skyla is still known as princess and is his trusted royal guard.

I also did a few doodles of side ideas I’ve had in the back of my mind for these two I haven’t drawn all of them out but they should be in another doodle dump at some point

Skyler and Skyler can fuse and do so when they need to and it’s how they both have same cutie marks, they refer to themselves as “they them” when transformed. The two must be next to the other to do this.

Thanks to auntie twilight skyler has an Affinity for decrepit story books from times of old and loves restoration, he Proudly calls it his hobby and can be seen reading to school children during his charity work.

The two do find love and end up very happy with their significant other’s after a diplomatic meeting skyla finds herself very heads over heals for princess Fire fly who also seems to enjoy skylas charming ability to romance her just about anywhere and later public courts her until marriage skyler opted into an arranged marriage with the prince of yakyakastand the two start out very awkward and afraid of offending the other the first year of their marriage, which came with asking if kisses or hand holding was allowed until a moment to truly see each other shine comes up during a crises and the two spring into action demonstrating care for their people and natural selflessness to assure everyone is safe attended to and the threat taken care of. Then the two start to actually see the other and get closer romantically.
