They are, after all, birds of prey. That look is probably "I'd like to eat that, but it's too big, so I'll come back after I've grown a bit."... which is probably basically also what anyone's pet cat is thinking when it looks at it's owner.

love owls, too...
2 / 3 weeks ago seen falcons, eagles, owls etc in a falconery - the eagle owl was soooo cute with that "paintbrush feathers" (did you know, they lay them down when they have no good mood?), it was a female and i was allowed to hold it (sadly not allowed to touch her feathers... she looked so fluffy), and a snow owl (a female, too - females have some pattern, males are completely white - so in the Harry Potter films they took a male to play the female Hedwig) was there too, but she stayed in her voliere...
seeing animals who are so much a symbol for being free in a cage is so sad...

Snowy owls are so beautiful. I also love their fluffy feet, it looks like they're wearing shoes.

If an Owl's eyes are yellow it means that they can hunt very well day and night, those with dark eyes are best at night and those with orange/red eyes hunt best at dusk/dawn when the light is that colour.
....sorry, I work with owls on my weekends and get asked about their eyes all the time, it sorta became a habit...
What I wouldn't give to work with a snowy like this one...
