I know the feeling. I've been getting books from Amazon, a local book store, and from the thrift store I've been working at for at least four years. Lately I've been adding a medium of five books to my pile every week, but I'm a slow reader; I read when I'm either on break at work, in the bathroom, or waiting for a pizza I ordered. I have a eight shelves and my pile getting so overflowing, I might get storage unit to hold the books I'm haven't read yet.
I've been getting books about history (I have yet read this one book about an American military project to train soldiers to fight on camel back), politics and government, religion (I've' never been very religious, but I've been curious and Harold Kushner has wrote some things that made me ponder and plan to find the time to read the Bible, Koran, and Bhagavad Gita), self-help (much of what Robert Greene has written has been the slap-in-the-face I needed), some thought provoking subjects on sins and ghosts by Corey Taylor of Stone Sour and Slipknot, cooking (I recently got this one book that has multiple recipes that all require package ramen), some that make me giggle (by chance or the random grace of God, I got one by one of my favorite comedians, Jeff Dunham), some books by Dr. Phil (. . . . . . Yes, I watch Dr. Phil and I will kill anyone who questions his work ), and I've getting interested in some mystery and suspense. For fictional literature, I would highly recommend the series that me, my dad, and my uncle are hooked on; the 'Ranger's Apprentice', by John Flanagan.

I am the opposite when it comes to reading; I can't focus on non-fiction most of the time because it's too real. We already live in this world and somehow reading of things that take place/have taken place/actually exist here doesn't hold my attention the same way a well crafted fiction about fantastic things that don't/can't exist in our world does.

I'm one of those that, since I was quite young, injected myself into the fantasy worlds created by others. Sometimes I would be my true self, other times an idealized version or even just certain aspects thereof; fiction has been my life's blood for longer than I can remember.
Truth be told, I should probably make a greater effort to read non-fiction to fill in the gaps of my real world knowledge that causes me to stumble when trying to craft my own stories...but I my attention span always peters out before I absorb anything. ~sigh~

I am kinda the reverse. I have so many books that I want to read (currently around 200 on my Goodreads shelf) but that I haven't yet gotten around to buying and reading yet. Once I've got the books I get through them in a week, two tops, and spend another month before buying another two or three, while finding about 10 or 20 new books.
The world of literature is too large and yet we book-worms, of whatever genre or themes, wish to devour all of our chosen areas. Good luck to your endeavours of learning

I know that feeling. I made the mistake of starting "Les Miserables" at the end of last summer, was too busy for it all school year, and now I'm still not even halfway done. The other books on my reading list have been kept waiting for over a year.

No... is it fiction or non-fiction? *googles*
Edit: Oh, Eragon... I know it's a popular piece of fantasy, but I explained why I rarely read contemporary literature in the description ^^

Electronic media is great, but not a true substitute for a book. I have my great grandfather's "The Calculus," and it with the dog-eared pages, underlined parts and slips of paper tucked in make a priceless window into his mind... HOW he thought. Just amazing.

My (physical) yet-to-be-read books would probably stack up to this degree, too!
And I have sooo many non-fiction books waiting for me to get to them, as well...
I just love learning new things. ^^
And then I have like 1,000 e-books on my Kindle on top of that... XP
I recognise myself in what you're saying - this need to just know things, about
dozens or hundreds or thousands of subjects... And having a book to hold is much
more satisfactory than scrolling in a browser! My dream is to have my own in-home
library in the future... X3
One can never get too much knowledge. ^^
