Denver was an electrical engineering major. He had been reading ahead to make sure was ready for his upcoming classes. However, he also knew rest and recreation was important too. That was why he decided to attend one of the many parties hosted by the sorority.

Although Denver had heard the rumors, like most people he did not take them seriously. At most, he thought they were wild exaggerations of things that actually happened. He came to the party wearing a suit and glasses as a way of silently showing he was serious about his work. He introduced himself and helped himself to the food and drink without thinking too much about it.

Denver talked with some of the sorority girls and told them about his future plans. Then Jasmine invited him on a tour of the sorority house. She was a chemistry major and could talk about some of the scientific stuff that was bore most of the other girls. She showed him the rooms that she thought would interest him, like the library and the lab. She showed him the perfume she had made herself. He did not care much about perfume but he thought it was neat that she had created it himself

After showing him some of the other rooms, she took him upstairs to her dorm room. When she turned on the light there was a bright flash and then nothing. The overhead light had burnt out. Jasmine got out the extra light bulbs, put a chair under the overhead light, and got ready to change it. Then Denver said he would change it himself. It felt like something he should do.

Jasmine thanked him and Denver changed the bulb. He could have said something about alternating current and direct current but he felt like it would bore even her. As soon as he put the lightbulb in, it came on. They had forgotten to turn the switch back.

Destiny, the sorority pledge was still on the chair having just changed the lightbulb. She wondered if this was some sort of test and hoped the sorority girls were pleased with her work. Then the bulb went out again for no apparent reason. Denver found himself in the dark. He wondered what had gone wrong.

Then the light came on once more. Destiny put the chair back where it belonged as if nothing had happened. She sat down by the window and glanced through some notes she did not remember bringing with her but were there anyway. She looked up at the light curiously as if expecting something to happen. Something did happen. The light went off again.

Denver thought the bulb must be defective. When he said this to Jasmine, she offered to spray him with perfume saying that should cause the irregularity to stop. Denver did not see what good that would do but he did not have any other ideas. The light came on once more.

With a shrug, Destiny agreed to let Jasmine spray her with perfume. She did. It smelled nice. Destiny normally did not bother with things like perfume but it was good to have a change of pace every once in a while.

Jasmine spent a few minutes showing her her dorm room and then they went back downstairs. On her way out, Jasmine turned off the light. The only thing that changed was the room became dark. That did not matter. The room was no longer needed, at least for the time being.

Destiny had desert while Jasmine went away for several minutes. When she came back, she told her she had been accepted into the sorority. Destiny was pleased. It was more or less what she expected but it was still good to hear. If they ever needed fancy lights for one of their parties, she would be ready and willing to help.
