This is a Semi-Closed Breed, If you wish one ask in a Note entitled "Nightmare Request".Guide to Nightmare Genetics
(didn't want to put the breeding into the actual document)
Breeding
Nightmares can breed with any types of horses and the traits of a Nightmare will remain dominant. Only after several generations of breeding with other equines will the traits either become severely recessive or will disappear. Twins are not uncommon with Nightmare breedings. If a Nightmare breeds with any type of equine, the foal will be the size of the mare, but will most likely grow to near adult nightmare size. The onmivorus nature of a Nightmare will be reduced with every breeding outside of the Nightmare gene pool.
It is alright to create a nightmare, but it is limited Nightmares are technically an endangered species to keep them safe from military draft the Castillo family wants to keep them out of those types of conflicts. Note me when ever you make one please, I'm making a group for them so I want them all in a directory.
The Red markings and tints are rare, only ones that I have approved, are okay. Ask before you make one with red tints.

NEW: Due to Lineart abuse with the Nightmares, personally drawn images are preferred for Nightmare adoption. But if you are more comfortable with coloring in Linearts, then use one you haven't used before. Not to sound mean but I'm sick and tired of repeated lineart use. But I understand that people wish to just use linearts, so I will be producing a set of linearts for this breed. /NEW
NEW Well old but brought back. Once nightmares reach a curtain age their 'canines' grow long enough to show when a Nightmare's mouth is closed. This 'curtain' age is over 1000 years. Drum has these 'fangs'./NEW

They are allowed to crossbreed. There are a few guides on the group page about what happens to their features after crossbreeding.

I'm drawing her now, quick question, since I'm drawing her as a foal, do their horns grow with them or... what? also For hair length, it'd be short as a foal, like with normal horses yes? and gets longer with age?

when born the horn hasn't yet broken the skin, and will continue to grow untill the age of 2 when they are fully mature. Their manes and tails grown like a horses, short at birth then growing long.

Yes you may create one, just remember the red gene is rare, and openly created ones can't have it show, but it can be recessive and show in foals.

i would love to make one of this breed, it is lovely. is there any other marking restrictions aside from limited red and a dark coat? such as, would a deep deep blue roan be acceptable?

Well all pure nightmares have the dark charcoal coat, with either no markings or white markings. Nightmares can have slight red tinting on their ankles or their manes with out being considered rare. You could have a reverse roan coloration where the extremities fade to white.

You may make a pair, the red tints to mane and tail and red markings are rare though, so if you make two only one can have the red.
