Description The dangerous but handsome cliffs of Lundy Island - a speck of slate & granite 12 miles off the coast of Devon in south west England. There are some people who profess to be great travellers, but who just can't take the bleak beauty of this wild & forbidding place. But I say "Here be real adventure...!"

Wow, what an amazing coastline! I've never seen this part of Devon - it might be worth a trip!

Thanks for dropping by, Emma. If you haven't been to Lundy, you really must: unless you've got your own boat, you take a ferry from Bideford or Ilfracombe. The inlet in my photo is one of dozens & dozens you can see on a round-island trip - but just as spectacular are the sea-bird colonies: thousands of guillemots, razorbills, gannets, oyster-catchers among many other breeds - not to mention a recovering population of puffins (the name Lundy is from an old Norse word for puffin), which nearly died out because of rats a few years ago; the rats have since been evicted, you'll be glad to hear... But do get over there - best in spring & summer; there's accommodation to stay there too, if you want to
