Description Here's my Chapter Master, all dressed up and ready to kick ass while looking sassy. Why does he have two thunder hammers? Because it's rules legal and I've got a hardon for big-ass hammers, that's why. I don't care if he costs upwards of 200 points and always strikes last: It'll hurt like buggery when he finally gets a chance to hit you back.

I thought of maybe giving him a horsehair crest or some wings on the helmet, but I think his huge cape is enough to signify that he's in charge here.

He originally had a green cape but I thought it didn't quite fit with the chapter's fluff, being from a desert planet, and so I went for a more sandy coloured cloth look. I think it worked out pretty well. Still not sure if I want to put a gold border over the very bottom of the cape though, just for some extra shiny detail.

Hey, thanks! I'm still quite pleased with it. I need to get back into painting though. I've lapsed.

i say let the cape as it is , simple and outstanding! i like it how you follow what you like and not what serves better on the tabletop i once had an idea of a chapter master with dual powerfists , like some kind of space marine boxer lol

Thanks Yeah I'm all for just having fun really. I have seen an angry marine commander done up the way you say, with the power fists from the assault and devastator squad boxes. The ones with the pointing fingers, pointing up while he stands on a defeated enemy in a sorta "FUCK YEAH!" pose. It was pretty badass. xP

That is a VERY interesting idea you had for the cape. Great conversion! (What model did that originally come from?)

Hey thanks. It came from the Sisters of Battle Living Saint model originally. My boyfriend had a spare so I put it to good use.

great job layering in the shadows... but it could use a little bit more highlighting imo...

great model though! LOVE the dubble hammer

Thank you! I might have to re-mix the little pot of highlight paint I made for my chapter. It seems darker now for some reason.

its clearly a conversion... what models did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Coillscath In reply to Fear712 [2011-04-06 07:51:19 +0000 UTC]

I used a veteran for the body and pose, the head of a hammer from an Empire Warrior Priest (The warrior priest itself was used in a conversion I did for a mini of my Dark Heresy character, a Redemptionist Priest), the hammer draped on his shoulder is from the Gamesday '08 (I think) Space Marine Captain model. The cloak is from the huge super saint woman from the sisters of battle (Courtesy of my boyfriend), and the backpack is just from the SM Captain box.

He was a lot of fun to build! xD

yeah ive seen the cloak before... it works wonders on chapter masters

need to find that on bitzbox to see if i can make one of my own...
(when i figure out how to name and color my own chapter)

im currently still doing ultramarines... but their a good practice

I came up with the colours for my chapter about 6 years ago, and I didn't find a good name for them until last year. xP Just let it come to you, don't rush it.

any suggestions? i also want to make it slightly believable, so i can defend it against the fluff rage....

Coillscath In reply to Fear712 [2011-04-07 03:05:50 +0000 UTC]

Woops, forgot we'd stopped talking about models. Anywho my final tip still stands. Don't be afraid to make them just another chapter. It doesn't matter if they stick rigidly to their progenitor chapter's tactics.

For names, just try to avoid naming them "The Emperor's" anything. xP

i was thinking of building an army around the greek god Hephaestus. their specialty being thunder hammers and heavy flamers, as Hephaestus is god of fire and craftsmanship... their heraldry being an anvil...
most logical would be to make them a successor of the salamanders, but i dont like the black skin mutation...

so...

any suggestions?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Coillscath In reply to Fear712 [2011-04-08 03:12:40 +0000 UTC]

That makes a lot of sense, especially if you take a Vulkan He'Stan counts-as character. Thunder hammers that reroll to hit, and flamers that reroll to wound can be nasty.

Fluffwise, that black skin mutation is because of the rather colourful kinds of radiation they deal with on their home planet, Nocturne, combined with the mutations they undergo during the organ transplants. As long as they were from a different planet you could make up anything you like. Personally I've just made it so my chapter only get the coal-black skin once they're a very old, so it's a sign of being a hardcore veteran.

well i dont play the game, but making it up to those standards sounds cool
do you have a conversion suggestion for the CM? there is only one non termi thunderhammer and that is that of the deathcompany, where the icons can be filed off

however i cant put them on the he'stan model, since arms are already attached on that... but i do like the cape...
another downside, i dont like the SM captain cape

and i really want to puff them up... make their armor shine, because Hephaestus made the most outrages gorgeous armors

Coillscath In reply to Fear712 [2011-04-08 08:49:13 +0000 UTC]

Nope, no ideas really. It's all up to your imagination. The only real super fancy models I can think of have chapter markings (Dark Angels, Black Templars or Blood Angels) plastered all over them and would be a bitch to convert...

Coillscath In reply to Fear712 [2011-04-07 03:03:53 +0000 UTC]

Tip 1) If metal, PIN EVERYTHING. Greenstuff simply isn't enough. Get a drill and pin any joins between metal/metal
Tip 2) Try not to intermix bits from different armies. The cape I could get away with because really, who doesn't look awesome in a giant cape? It also still fit in with the baroque aesthetic of the Imperium because it came from the Sisters of Battle army.
It wouldn't make as much sense for him to have wings, for example, or a Dark Eldar splinter rifle.

One final tip- Don't be afraid to stick to vanilla fluff. It doesn't have to be completely unique. Pick a Progenitor Chapter to theme him on, and keep him in character with them. My chapter's progenitors are the Salamanders, so my chapter master loves him some thunder hammers. An Imperial Fists successor chapter master may prefer the more durable Hammer/Storm Shield mix possibly with Terminator Armour, and a Raven Guard one may choose the double lightning claws and a Jump Pack.

Yay for thunder hammers!

Cool mini, I like the idea with the cape, and you're right, extra wings would have been too much. As for a fine golden border... I think it wouldn't need be so fine at all. A somewhat "broader" trim with a very fine line above, like on the toga of a Roman senator, would perhaps look quite good...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Coillscath In reply to TheShepster [2011-04-03 07:55:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I was thinking of doing a thick, black stripe with a thin trim of gold, perhaps. If the cape was more flat I'd think about using a pitt pen to do some fancy symbols or whatnot. I'm glad you think it looks good.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheShepster In reply to Coillscath [2011-04-03 09:24:53 +0000 UTC]

You could even use purple for the stripes and go for the full Roman toga effect...

Coillscath In reply to TheShepster [2011-04-03 12:07:59 +0000 UTC]

Cool idea, but I'm going more for a Fremen motif for my chapter, since they come from a desert planet. I dunno, I might leave it as it is.
