Backstory:
Cylens young childhood is one of regularity for a sphinx, he spent his days alone studying history, wandering from place to place and coming up with riddles that he thought could impress and furiate those who would listen to him.
Wandering into Somnambula one day he found many ponies staring at him, unaware of the town’s name and the town ponies reasons for hating Sphinxes had in the town, when he tried to talk to a pony to ask if he could share a riddle or two for some gold, the pony almost immediately responded with a look of hatred and they simply turned away and wouldn’t respond to Cylens.

Cylens still unaware that the legend of Somnambula originated in this town wondered what he did wrong, he did acquire some food from a caravan resting at an oasis and they gave him almost the same treatment when he tried to give them some payment, except shunning Cylens they fled leaving all their things behind, being good natured as he was left them some gold behind and continued with a few food items.
Cylens thinking on this thought he had offended these people in some way and tried to explain his reasoning for taking the food however when he mentioned it to someone they turned and scolded him, telling him that they won’t stand for another tyrannical sphinx and that if they must they will chase him from the town by force if necessary, convinced Cylens that he must have done something wrong and so he tried to find the name of the town but again no one would acknowledge him.
Cylens decided to try and find any sort of clue as to what the town was called, having suspicions on where he was now, he looked in the immediate vicinity of the town, spotting the old Pyramid in the distance, almost caused him to crash into the ground as he felt anger and the towns ponies for judging him only because of his species and he wanted go back and cause chaos only to then become hurt and flying away from Somnambula, wishing he could be treated like a normal pony.

Eventually ending up in the everfree forest Cylens found the castle of the two sisters. He used the castle as a home for a while before becoming lonely and after fighting with himself to give ponies another chance, made for the large city he could see on the mountain nearby.

Arriving at night he was decided to rest in a small park finding a tree to sleep under, upon awakening Cylens found himself at spearpoint by ponies clad in golden armour, unicorn ponies lighting up the area with their magic and pegasi ready to force him to the ground if he tried to flee. The golden clad ponies lead him to the castle which he found out that the small park he slept in was in fact one of the many gardens of the large castle and that he had been asleep for little over an hour while the guards prepared to capture him.

Being brought to the princess on duty Princess Luna she asked Cylens what he was doing in the castle, to which he replied i came to this city to tell riddles and i only landed here to rest after my long journey, (this was a small lie as his journey didn’t take long he just left for the city late) Princess Luna asked him about his riddles and Cylens asked if she would like to hear one, Luna did as she wanted to know how good his riddles were. So he told the princess his riddle, there are two sisters: one creates the other, and she in turn creates the first, who were the two sisters?
Princess Luna though told Cylens the answer to the riddle “the two sisters are the sun and the moon”, Cylens exclaimed his joy as that was his first riddle he had been able to tell ponies in weeks. Princess Luna seemingly enjoyed his riddle and asked Cylens what else he created, Cylens replied, only riddle princess but i do like to read about history. Luna then asked if Cylens would tell her another riddle, if he won and Luna couldn’t guess it then she let him live at the castle for a while, and if she won he would have to leave. Cylens felt the pressure and asked for a moment to find a riddle, finding the one he thinks will win he gives Luna the riddle, You have me today, Tomorrow you'll have more; As your time passes, I'm not easy to store; I don't take up space, But I'm only in one place; I am what you saw, But not what you see. What am I?

Princess Luna thought hard about the riddle, but in the end she couldn’t guess what it was when asking Cylens he replied Memories!, just like this one were making right now. Princess Luna agreed to let Cylens stay in the castle but with one request, that he become the Royal Historian and that he tells her riddles whenever he can create a great one, Cylens agrees and settles down in the library ready to read and document new historical events, and ever since that night Cylens and Luna constantly try to outmatch each other with Cylens riddles and they both good friends to one another.
