It's the evil Governor! (boo!) I had such a love/hate relationship with this guy... He was such an amazing character but I was happy at the way his storyline was ended.

This is probably my favorite neutral character in the series. Sure, I was mad when he cut off _________'s head, (gotta avoid spoilers) but hey, a bad guy's gotta do what a bad guy's gotta do

I found his treatment of Andrea and Milton particularly repulsive.

Loving father, he kept his zombie daughter chained in cage. And feed her human flesh. Do you have some issues we need to discuss, just kidding. A piece of glass stuck in anyones eye might make them a little cranky.

He kept her chained like that because he couldn't handle saying goodbye, so he kept her even though she was a zombie, hoping Milton would find a cure. Have you seen the episode where he kept saying "It's Daddy. Look at me baby. Don't you recognize me?" and he got emotional and frustrated when she wouldn't acknowledge him. It's really not that hard to understand. He was going through a lot.
He was evil before he lost his eye. He was going to execute Maggie and Glenn. He forced Maggie to strip off and he pinned her to the table threatening to rape her. I could understand him being angry at Michonne. That was no excuse for setting out to kill Rick, Carl, Judith, Maggie, Glenn, Hershel etc... and doing what he did to Andrea and Milton when they tried to stop him. The list just goes on.

So, crazy lady, let me get this right, you have sympathy for him because he was a loving, caring father who kept his Zombie-fied daughter chained in a cage. While he sat in front of a bunch of fish tanks with floating heads in them. He's OK! And you understand him.
But, when he does whatever he needs to do to get information from two outsiders who threaten the towns way of life. He's evil. And he did not rape Maggie, but knew Glenn would talk if he went through the motions. That's just good leadership. Knowing peoples weaknesses.
So do we hate him or respect him?
Plus, remember he was given a second chance, after his walkabout. A whole knew family and his only goal was to get back to the prison to kill Rick. And we all know how that worked out.

When did I say he wasn't plain evil? And when did I say he raped Maggie? I said he threatened to. How were Maggie and Glenn threatening Woodbury? When they eventually did give the information, he ordered for them to be taken to the screamer pits. How was that good leadership? Woodbury wouldn't have been attacked by Rick, Daryl and Michonne if he hadn't have held Glenn and Maggie captive and ordered for them to be executed. It was him who started that. He only wanted information so he could go with his sidekicks to the prison and kill everyone and steal their supplies, as he did with the soldiers and the retirement home. Aside from that, he just plain terrorized and humiliated Maggie and threatened her with sexual violence. If you think that was OK, then maybe you're crazy yourself.
He was a despicable villain, but also a parent who kept his zombie daughter on a chain with desperate delusion that she could one day "get better". It doesn't make it right, but what other options did he have beside putting a bullet in her head?

So you totally agreed with what I said. That makes you fairly intelligent. And we also agreed that it was wrong to humiliate Maggie, and physically abuse Glenn, because, a decent human being would use a different method to acquire the needed information. And I did not say it was OK to threaten anyone with any kind of violence. That was a clue to how evil this individual truly was. And he does not deserve any kind of respect.
Also, what about his wife? Was he a good father, but a terrible husband?
Now I have a couple of questions for you:

I was just sharing my views judging by the show and how I interpreted certain scenes and what I gathered from his character and mentions of his life before the zombie apocalypse. We never got to find out what sort of husband he was. Milton was deadly sure that Phillip was a good man before the apocalypse, so that's all we have to go on.
Jessica Lange's characters are always a real laugh, but there's something really interesting about Lily Rabe's appearance and the characters she plays. I think all the cast make the show. I was thinking of drawing someone else in AHS as a change. I think Jessica Lange plays the best characters. They're so bitchy, mean, yet really comical. Her quips are the best.
