Description This is Squall Leonhart, the protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII. This piece is dedicated for and for being awesome friends, and because they're both FFVIII obsessed
How many times have you played it through, Cindy?

My second pencil portrait. Trust me when I say that the original looks better...it does. I think I failed miserably on the fire...
And on the hair, too...
I need to practice on hair xP
Any tips on how to draw fire, though?
The jacket and gunblade handle got sort of sloppy, sorry about that... What is this patience you speak of...?

Done all in 0.7 mechanical pencil with HB graphite, except the background, which was done with an 8B prismacolor woodless graphite pencil. Sadly, that said pencil snapped in two in the process... I'm probably using too much pressure

Constructive criticism is the best type!

Also, I might do some more touchup and see if I can get a better scan/fiddle with it in photoshop so it looks as close to the original as I can get it. But that will be on a later date

EDIT: I was going to work on it a little more maybe, but while it was sitting on my desk in class, some jerk knocked in down and creased it...
So...no more work on it...and no more leaving drawings unattended... RAWR!!!!!!

This is pretty cool! I really like the POV here, with us just glimpsing the character over the edge of the blade--and the bright flare of the flame onto his face is very well done, light-wise. I think the hair is actually very good--good texturing and layers--some splashes of highlighting and darker areas (think going more extreme with what you already have down) would be all that is needed to develop it a bit more. I'm going to agree with everyone on his eyes, too--nicely done; darkening the pupil of his right eye (the one on the left in the drawing) would match it a little better to his left, but both have a wonderful "wet" look to them--it really adds a lot of life! A difficult perspective done very well!

wow, wow and wow.
amazing shading, as usual.
first, what i like: shading (duh), the eye on the left (his right) is very well shaded, your eye-studying has payed off. also, good eyebrows. you seem capture emotion quite well.
the eye on the right (his left) is smaller and a slightly different shape than the left one. other than that, its really good. but if you slowed down, smoothed out those more obvious pencil lines where it should be solid and had a bit more pacience you could be absoultely amazing.

oh, it's not supposed to me smoothed out
I was trying to just used mechanical pencil. The background is, obviously, but the rest is just pencil lines...well, except for the fire...that's....just eraser lines... And especially on the blade, I was trying to mimic the look of steel. The face could've been smoothed...but I wanted some practice without.
About the eyes...the reference eyes looked kind funny too... xP
And no, I haven't really been doing eye studies...it was just boredom in bio lol
And about his eyebrows...Squall just looks that way lol

I love squall! He turned out so nicely!!! I love the effect in the sword and the lighting turned out really nice. Perhaps the eyes are a little too close to each other and a little more range in the values would make the drawing more rich. A nice little secret in making wider range in values is to get a stick of medium charcoal and blending it in the darkest parts with the graphite. It turns out very nicely.

Thanks, both for the compliments and advice! I noticed that it looked kind of washed out, too I might try charcoal later, but at moment, I don't have any
Thanks again!
