Interesting Film, yet a bit strange, when one has read the book

While I've read the book several times over the years (it is, after all, a quick read), I haven't seen this film version, just came across some information about it and a collection of stills and was intrigued (I don't think it got a North American release even on the art house circuit). I have seen other films that use parts of the novel, or reference it, but I've never been that impressed or satisfied by any of them -- not that it's necessarily a great novel but it does have a basic, primal power.
