Description

After seeing Rob Caswell's original sketches for what would become the Action transport, I decided it was about time to revisit this ship, and work her up as the original artist intended, especially as the wide body layout is, IMHO, far better looking.

Rob's original is here...

You can see Rob's sketch for a front elevation in the lower right.

As Rob described the ship as originally being a replenishment ship for the Alliance fleet, with a pair of boom arms for refueling, I Identified what I assume is meant to be the boom, and also scaled the ship based on what seems to be obviously a doorway immediately below the boom's hinge housing.

That puts the ship at 64.5 meters rather than the usually listed 125, which is as close to 50% as makes little difference, which leads me to think at some point an editor somewhere simply doubled the length. This seems to be a common scaling issue; the other one I run into often is confusing imperial and metric measurements, a ship that's sixty feet gets listed as sixty meters, or vice versa.

V5b Specific

There have been extensive tweaks to the detailing, but the main thing is doing the colour and shading.

oh and I thought the Action 6 was 125, while the previous ones are shorter?

According to the difficult to spell wiki...

2 = 100m
4 = 100m
5 = 115m
6 = 125m

But I'm pretty sure the lower numbers are ret-cons, and the first stated length was 125.

Could well be wrong, though, I can't be arsed to trawl through the RASB.

Either way, this version is shorter, made to fit the airlock door rather than WEGs almost always dodgy stats.

It's so much easier when you stop giving a shit about canon.

so what lead you to think the scale was off?  Couldnt it just as easily be 125 meters?

Because there's a door clearly shown.

The front angle was the whole reason to start, and more or less finish this project. It's been MUCH longer than my usual ships, but I just had to bring the correct shaped ship into the world.
