Such a shame people will now think this is how a 'very extended trot' should look like. The horse is both incorrectly collected and engaged. Such a pity, you really should have if anything brought his head up and brought his hind leg up. That way he'd looking engaged, and correctly extended.....
here is a true collected and extended trot. This is what one should look for, not this. This horse as you can see is not engaged, and just pulling his back end. Too many dressage riders just want to see some fancy front leg work though. His poll is also too low...

Okay, but actually, many people don't know what the correct extended trot looks like. A lot of people actually think this is how it should be.......sadly.....

Haha, funny, you think that just because I know what the proper way the extended trot should be executed, that is 'small minded'. I think the small minded people are the ones who can't seem to research the proper information, and fall for the first thing they see.Β

Nope, I wasn't referring to you. But as a person who upload photos of horses on deviantart, you'd be surpriced to see how many comments I get from people who concider everything that's different from what they think to be completely wrong. As if there was only one right way to do things in the world. That's one of the reasons to why I try not to upload photos of ridden horses, tack, and horses that are working. The amount of comments where people try to pinpoint everything that's wrong is insane. That's what I call small minded. The inability to look past what you know and perhaps try to learn something about that. That's also one of the many things I try to just look past and not bother myself with It's impossible to change someones mind via a few commens, so I just hide that kind of comments these days. Especially the rude ones. But since we were on the subject of annoying stuff about equistrians who ride horses in odd ways, I added yet another thing hat I find even more annoying So, like I said - not referring to you.
For me, who have been into multiple diciplines and try to listen to what each one promotes and why they do so, it's quite clear that there are more than one good way to do things. It's quite interesting to listen to good dressage riders, good western pleasure riders, good academic/baroque riders (etc. etc.), and hear what they have to say, compare it and look a the way the horse moves. The essence of the different shapes are so different from one another, yet the horse can in all cases be relaxed, working in a good way and be ridden in complete harmony. A joy to see, in all casesΒ
And I agree with you - everyone should do some research. It's crazy how often people jus assume things and not even trying to understand what they see, or what it is.
As for this picture - like I said, it's just something I threw together for digital artists to play around with. It was never intended for anyhing but that.
