Description
Ever since the season finale, there have been a lot of people who wanted a soarindash that showed rainbow dash with her new hairdo, so I've decided to give it a shot. Here is the story for this picture.Soarin was going to be in the war against the Crystal Empire, but after a flight accident, he broke his wing and could not volunteer. So Rainbow Dash decided to go in his place. Soarin did not want Rainbow to go, he was afraid of loosing her.He told her that just because he couldn't go to war didn't mean she had to go.Rainbow was thinking about it, but, she then realized she had to for Equestria, her friends, and Soarin. Rainbow reassured him that she would come back to him unharmed.Knowing he couldn't change her mind, he let her go and they said their goodbyes to each other before Dash has to leave.

Running a hoof over the uniform she had been issued, Dash wonders for the hundredth time that hour if this is truly a good idea. She was no stranger to fighting, having grown up the tomboy she had fights had never been far off. Bruises and broken bones were no stranger to her, cuts and scratches old friends.
This, this is different though.
War was a far stretch from the scraps she had gotten into before, far more dangerous and the stakes far higher than simply wounded pride or the honor of her best friend, fluttershy. Heck, the prosthetic wing she now sports speaks to that point well enough, having been gained in one of the earliest engagements when Cloudsdale had been attacked.
"You don't have to go, you know," a voice comes from behind Dash, pulling her attention from the mirror as a warm smile spreads over her features, the scar over her right eye stretching slightly.
"I know, dear," Dash agrees, her rose colored eyes growing soft. "Spitfire made that clear when I reported for duty. My wing is enough for a medical discharge, but... they need me, Soarin, and I can't let them down." She punctuates the last remark by tapping the letter sitting on the low table beside her. She has read it a thousand times, the first line now -- 'In recognition for past services at the battle of Cloudsdale, Rainbow Dash is to receive the rank of Flight Lieutenant...' -- now long committed to memory.
"You really are loyal to the core, aren't you?" Soarin chuckles weakly as he walks over and pulls Dash into a tight embrace. 'Guess that's why I'm madly in love with you, eh?"
"That, or my winning personality," Dash chuckles before burying her face into his neck and taking in his scent, doing her best to burn it into her mind, so she'll never forget.
"That too," Soarin agrees as he runs a hoof through her short-cropped mane. "Because it certainly isn't for your hairstyle."
"Hey, I thought you loved this haircut," Dash growls in mock hurt, sticking her tongue out at the stallion.
"I said that Sombra won't stand a change against you with that hairstyle," Soarin argues with a wink, "he'll be too busy laughing to defend himself."
"I'd better get going..." Dash sighs, slowly pulling away. She is stopped as Soarin grabs her hoof, and is surprised to see tears filling his eyes. "Soarin...?"
"I wish I could go with you," Soarin admits, wiping his eyes. "Wish my stupid wing hadn't gotten broken, and I wish you didn't have to leave."
"Me too," Dash chuckles weakly, doing her best to ignore the tears forming in her own eyes. "But we'll be back together before you know it! You couldn't get rid of me if you tried, you big softy."
"That a promise, Dash?" Soarin whispers, pulling her closer and laying his head against hers. "Promise me you'll come back in one piece, and not in a pine box? Promise I'm not going to get a letter like the stallion next door?"
"I promise," Dash's own voice is barely audible, her throat thick from holding back her own tears. Together, they stand there as if nothing else in the world exists, eyes closed, tears streaming down their faces as they hold each other's hooves as if through sheer contact alone the war could end, and they'd never have to say goodbye...
Anddd.... there you lot go... I wrote a SoarinDash fic... as short as it is...

I still think it's not as good as it could be, and that Colourstrike's art is the true masterpiece there, but thank you none the less!
As for a continuation, perhaps somewhere down the road, but likely no time soon. I have a lot of other, rather large, projects I have to attend to before I can branch out.
