There is still hope for this old R Series; I've seen trucks and cars in far worse shape restored! The great thing(OK, ONE of the great things...you've probably noticed that I have a thing for Studes)about Studebakers is that it's very easy to find parts for these-everything from chasses to rebuilt engines to chrome, to the very nuts and bolts used by the folks at South Bend, and there is a really great "support group", in the form of the Studebaker Drivers Club. I'm more of a purist, and love to see them restored as close to the original as possible, but at least a custom restoration, with a Stude engine, is really great. I wish I'd gotten pics of the 1949 ORIGINAL(non-restored, other than a newer coat of outside paint)full-ton Stude truck that was at the Southeastern Regional meet in Mount Pleasant recently; the owners drove it from Black Mountain, NC(near Mount Mitchell, tallest point east of the Mississippi)down to the SC coast, and back-everyone swore they could smell the whiskey all around this thing, from all the moonshine it had probably hauled in its day! Those trucks were built to last.

I think for classic trucks a Studebaker is the way to go. They look smoother and sleeker than other trucks.

Doubt the chasis will be in that bada shape. Go for it

Whether they are running or rusting, Studes are cool.

It looks like the tires and wheels are still decent - needs headlights though, so no night driving.

Nice job of framing the truck against the background, Paul.
