Description there are vestiges of you
haunting the quiet thronerooms
of my palisade chest. you ghost
through stone-pillar ribs and
phase past decrepit murals, i painted
my insides with hieroglyphs that
all mean missing you.

chandelier jellyfish swim, trailing
memories of our hands tangled in
ivory moonbeams, of our hands
ten fingers away from forever, our
hands on opposite sides of the table,
you told me i couldn't hold the fragile
pieces of you anymore as if i was the one
who broke you.

your name means to defend and here
you are crumbling and you couldn't
shield me from your shortcomings
and i have kept fragments of you in
this ruined chest as if it will make a
difference, as if i can put you back together
but i am watching you tear yourself asunder
on distant shores; we sit with our hands
apart, we are ten fingers away from farewell.

there are remnants of your past
floating between my lungs where
birds mourn and whales sing and
your silent confessions, your unspoken
i love yous echo in my heartbeat;
i carved you a palace and all you can
do is haunt it, can never sit on the
throne you fall through.

my sweet vessel, she left you like a
jack-o-lantern in november,
walked away with the saints and
now i dream of will o wisps kissing,
of submerged black oceans and a
great atlantis palladium where i once
imagined forever, forever.

(how can you stop loving something
that has embedded itself into your
skin and cannot help but play your
heartstrings the right-wrong way?
how do you put the ghosts in your
heart to rest when it's you that
can't let go?)

The imagery here has an allure that captures my vision of the ocean: dark, muted, powerful, immense, alluring as old love. Truly gorgeous. Well done.

This is a great read, really enjoyable; the imagery, whilst really evocative, can get a bit much however, in my opinion you could cut it down a tad and it would really shine. Love this to bits.

Love the imagery. 'chandelier jellyfish' is particularly evocative.

Sigh. "Til human voices wake us, and we drown."

WrackNow that you're receding into my past
Β  Β  faster and faster
Dopplering in the distance from the well-lit circle of my life
With the anguish and loneliness and loss
Like the ebbing of some dark tide,
Only seldom do I find myself looking back
Β  Β  to see some bright figment of remembrance
Surface, struggling
Against pain-fogged forgetting.
I try not to cry for those; there's no hope
Β  Β  left there
Dead, abandoned with all I could not
Β  Β  Would not
Bear to look at.
Yet I should write an epitaph
That once they soared, thrilling
Β  Β  across an unknown territory of two...
(In the ruins of someone else's past, a reverie:
Now almost in the gasping grasp of sea,
You waded through the deluge
To find the most perfect bloom for me;
Crying, we neither of us needed
Β  Β  to speak aloud
The promise of the white lily.)
I hasten forward into the future
Β  Β  as fast as my heart can carry me.Β

such a beautiful poem, this sounds like a silly thing to say but I adore your usage of 'dopplering' - how did I forget that word for so long!

Moving, and written prettily. Some really interesting analogies in there - "ten fingers away from forever", etc.

Oh this is beautiful Β  I love the palace imagery in the first two stanzas (and especially the "chandelier jellyfish" part). It all perfectly shows how there's (imagined) splendour and at the same time emptiness, crumbling and haunting... It's a very specific feeling you captured in this poem, but you make it come to life.
