I was wondering how to fill different spaces with a different colour using the bucket tool. When I try it colours the entire layer.

It depends on the line art you're using. Could you show me what line art you're trying to use it on?

Well it shouldn't do that then. You have to make sure you're on the 'Color Me' layer. Then you can use the bucket tool. Just letting you know, it will color the whole thing, so you can't use it on coloring parts such as the eyes separately. I don't usually use the bucket tool. I use the airbrush tool, paper brush, water and blur brush to create designs and such.
