It's crazy some thing like this hasn't evolved in the past, because there are those squid that jump out of the water. I doubt that this behavior is new, considering the age of cephalopods, but maybe some thing like this did evolve, but left no remains because it became even lighter for gliding/flight.

Instead of having white sails, sails would be black. Squid ink. No white bird droppings for thes poor fools, oh no...~

It would be rather annoying. I would say that sails would be mottled white and black and grey to hide all the stains as I still envision birds in this world.

It's the same woe as the owner of the tortieshell cat. No matter what the colour of your sweater, you're still boned.

Suppose there's variations on this one with boomerang fins. Suppose there's squid-heads who elongate their fins for beauty...
It gazes into my soul, head on.

I need to give it a bit of work. I have learnt a bit more about squid anatomy recently, which means that I need to 'fix' some 'mistakes'.
I know the eyes spook me too...

Just amazing, have you seen any specimens of taninga danae?

It. Is. Beautiful. Not to mention completely believable for what it is; after all, there are squid that bullet out of the sea and glide (sorta) for a short distance, so this is the extrapolation of that behavior.
More, please!

Looking forward to it.
I was going to ask about the "tusks", but was beaten to the punch.

I LOVE this. LOVE IT. I WANT it. I want to take it home with me, to be alone with me. I also want your Photoshop painting ability, but I imagine it's a prized possession, jealously guarded from the gaze of the prying Eye.
But back to the squid--I love how feasible it looks...I can actually see a cepahlopod becoming something like this. Those tusks remind me of a beaked whale's. Really digging those splotches on the wings and mantle, as well.
My sense of the evolutionary history is some alternate Ordovician...But that's probably because I was watching a show about the Ordovician last night.
Fantastic...I can't wait to see those alternate views!
