'Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil'. It's a quote from the bible I believe.

The last name seems to ring a bell...

Where did you find or think it up?

commando-kev In reply to SOLcaster [2011-11-06 12:33:15 +0000 UTC]

Ethan Hawke? He's an american actor who's been in loads of films like 'Training Day', 'Daybreakers' and Brooklyns Finest'.

The other name, Thomas Furlong, was one I came up with but the Furlong part is the surname of a sniper who holds the longest ranged sniper shot on record. Or he did when I created this!

Ah yes Rob Furlong the famous Canadian Sniper. I thought the name sounded familiar.

Its a British guy who holds the record now I think.

Oh cool. I didnt think Furlong held the record anymore, thought Id read something somewhere that a Brit had it. My spider sense's are telling me he's a Royal Marine but I could just be going mad! LOL

Dude your drawings are awesome. Just one question, what are these for? Are they for a book or something?

Thanks man. Yeah they are for my graphic novel I'm currently writing a script for. I just wanted to 'see' what the characters looked like really. Its all ongoing stuff but I'm actually deciding whether to try and do sort of like a motion comic trailer? Its just getting round to it all! Thanks for the comment dude

You're welcome. And if your graphic novel gets published, I would definately buy it.
What's the premise of the novel?

commando-kev In reply to Nightbringer24 [2010-10-16 17:12:12 +0000 UTC]

Wow, thanks man

Its set in near future, like 5 - 10 years. A terrorist attack on a military science facility releases an incomplete nanovirus into the atmosphere. It affects the whole world, giving a small percentage of people abilities.
A special unit is assembled to combat the threat as some of these people start commiting acts of crime and terrorism, either just because they can or they are being coerced to do so.
The main characters are a brother and sister involved in the team. One of the main themes is racism but its also about how far do you go to protect people, and that the decisions you make for yourself dont just affect you, they affect everyone you're close to.
I just really like the idea of having a realistic interpretation of superheroes and how would the military even combat something like that? Interesting to me Thanks for the interest man

Sounds cool. But to be honest sounds more like a tv series than a graphic novel, you know something similar to Heroes. Still, I would bye it.

commando-kev In reply to Nightbringer24 [2010-10-16 18:45:40 +0000 UTC]

Well that was one idea actually, to write it like a tv series, definately like Heroes. But I'm trying to stick with a 2 hour screenplay, seems to be working so far! Got the basic stuff in there and events, character arcs ect... I'd be well pleased if it were turned into a tv series or a film! Would be awesome! I've always kind of seen it as (style wise anyway) as a cross between District 9 and Black Hawk Down, gritty realism.

I love this one, it's awesome! Do you use photoshop? And if so, how do you make the lighting so... well shiny.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

commando-kev In reply to KnightOfAmmo [2010-10-03 23:11:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man! Yeah using Photoshop CS3. The lighting you can use the line tool, pure white then just make it fairly opaque using the opacity on the layer. Then using the eraser and my trusy wacom I erase more and more towards the end (the fat end). You can then just keep duplicating the layer and it looks like the light is getting more intense! Hope that helps!

I really do love the realism of this peice. The religous scrawl and the mini-kukri add a level of individualization that is rarely found in other military peices.

The only real shagrin I have with the picture is his forehead. It seems too square, but the rest of it is beautiful.

BTW, I'm a gun nut. What's the caliber of his rifle? 7.62mm?

Thanks dude, I actually sketched the face from a screenshot but yeah looking at it now..LOL And yeah the gun is 7.62mm. Its the new M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System. Check it out on Wikipedia or there's a cool Future Weapons episode with it featured I think. I'm pretty sure its on Youtube.

I had a character in a story a long time back that had part of John 3:16 carved on the barrel of his pistol. I noticed the cross, I just wanted to be sure that I got the quote right.

Yep thats the quote There's alot of famous bible quotes that they use in Movies and TV shows, I guess its just because people will recognise them

Sounds like you had an interesting character in that story then?

"Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil." That is what the rifle butt says, yes?

commando-kev In reply to Katt120 [2010-08-24 06:18:10 +0000 UTC]

It is indeed. The character is a fairly religous man, notice the cross he's holding too. It just adds another layer of character to him

Thanks very much

The gun is the M110, I think its either being used now or being tested by the US Army. Cus its semi-auto you dont have to take your eye from the scope or adjust like with a regular Bolt Action Sniper rifle!
Thanks for commenting

Haha yeah, it is about time they repaced the scoped m16 for light tactical; It jammed far too much. I still prefer a scoped R700, though.
