Description One of the primary issues I had with Overwatch from a design and story perspective since 2016 has been the fact that most of the cast is morally black and white. This has led to a set of mostly one dimensional themes personified rather than enjoyable characters. They are also all overdesigned. Mei particularly grossed me out. She, despite being a Han Chinese woman is depicted to look in accordance to East Asia's highly colonial beauty standards. To be perfectly honest she reads visually as waisan. In 2018 or so there was a who freak-out amongst Chinese fans over her being fat and the devs fucking caved. Additionally her backstory with the whole thing of "the true causes of the climate crisis are unknown" and thus Mei and other scientists were sent to a remote outpost for further research is just plain dangerous climate denial. Also logically speaking there is no way her watchpoint, after a massive disaster, was just not checked for 10 years. More likely she and her team, of whom she is the sole survivor, were deemed acceptable losses. Based on her biological age of 31, this would her been her first major assignment as a Phd, then being left for dead... ain't no way Mei wouldn't paranoid as hell. Basically what I am saying is that Mei would be 100% more compelling if she was a paranoid mad scientist hellbent on ridding of those who nearly killed her for nothing. Thus making her time with Overwatch more precarious. At this point she should be aware that resource overconsumption is the reason for the climate crisis. Mei should still have a charming personality but be also obviously a lunatic that barely resembles her pre freeze self,
