Description My first completed attempt to use oil paints. Went with something simple to test them.
As you can see the background was very half hearted, and in spite of its size I was loath to scan it lest the paint smear. Otherwise I feel it turned out pretty well, paint wise anyway. I still need to get used to the blending properties of oil.

Also, points if you can guess what kind of fox it's meant to be.

Looks great! Do you think you like oils as much as acrylics?

I'm not sure yet.
I can see them working better for certain more elaborate  painting ideas where the long drying time would be useful, rather than irritating. Gives a bit more room for error.

My guess: a critter with a name which might fool you in believing that a guy called Darwin owned it.

Well 'duh' for you anyway.

I was actually anticipating Han-Wik as the most likely candidate to chime in with the right answer though heheh. Sufficiently interested without being an expert on foxes.

But yeah. Will continue with some less common foxes/Zorros I think.

I'm too late to the party, I see. : P
Thank you so much for the mention, though- I can only hope there will be other chances at guessing lesser known species in the future. And it's in my plans to become more talkative on here.

The Darwin's fox was one of my guesses- the overall grey fur and contrasting rufous ears was what gave it away. A customer once told me they'd like a Darwin's fox (but decided on something else for their first choice, if I remember correctly), and I spent some time researching photos out of curiousity and for reference.

These colors go well with each other, the background is filling everything it needs to, and I like detalization of the Fox. No idea what to add, I just like it!

Also nope. But I mentioned above too, I made the ears much too big and the snout isn't big or prominent enough. I at least feel like the colours worked out though for this species.

Nope. And unfortunately I made the ears too big for this species actually, and the snout too small.

First thing that came into mind was a kit fox, but that's probably not it ... perhaps a type of more southern kin.
Also, the colours used give a give a tranquil atmosphere, turning the focus to the animal itself. I wonder what he's up to.

Nope.

And thanks.
