So, I’ve been asked a few times if I have a Spyro fancharacter. Kinda? I’ve got Menace. Anyway, Ages ago I read that the studio behind the Legend of Spyro series never fully decided on who Spyro’s parent was. (The design team went with Ignitus, if you’re curious) BUT, Malefor was one of the high contenders for the right to be Spyro’s dad. Helps that they chose Mark Hamill to voice Malefor, because nobody knows evil dad’s and their empires and planet destruction like Luke Skywalker.
So, I kind of went the mentality of “But what if Malefor WAS Spyro’s dad.” Blam, Menace. (Born mostly from the fact that my nickname for Spyro is Purple Dragon Menace. Anyway, Menace is essentially classic spyro, but without his filters. Instead of being generally heroic, he’s a bit of a jerk who helps people, so that they’ll obey and serve him.
Anyway, I may have referenced one of my favorite artists a bit during the posing process, without realizing it until I had finished lining. Oops. Either way, tried some new shading stuff, and what not to make it pop a bit more.
(May have used a bit of Cynder’s design too. Ha.)
