One of the most famous ship wrecks of all time is the 1975 loss of the American lakes freighter SS Edmund Fitzgerald

On November 10th, 1975 the ship was caught up in a November gale on Lake Superior and would sick with the loss of all hands. One of the first large items to wash ashore after the sinking was one the her lifeboats, washing up on a beach on the Canadian side of the lake. The Lifeboat is now on display at the SS Valley Camp Museum in Sault ste. Marie, Michigan
