The screams were quickly drowned by the roar and crackle of flames. Watching the village burn, the hobgoblin warband laughed and cajoled with each other, riding the high of a successful raid. It had been so easy. So simple. Those human settlers barely had the time to drop their tools and reach for their weapons before Bughoz's boys fell on them. Hacking and slashing. Oh, that blood tasted sweet - always the sweetest when tinged with fear and desperation. And those women and children that barricaded themselves in the main hall? The hobgoblins' only regret was that they could not watch the terror in their eyes up close as the flames started to consume the building.

The village had a fair bit of gold to carry off - and good steel, to boot. Surprising, considering that the humans didn't seem to know how to use or defend such treasures. No matter. Bughoz and his followers would make proper use of it instead.

One of the others suddenly said, "Yarrg's missing."

Bughoz frowned. Yarrg was supposed to have finished pilfering that barn. A simple job - no humans were left to put up a fight.

Something flew out of the dark and landed at his feet. Yarrg's head.

Immediately, the hobgoblins drew their sabers and barked in rage. Who would dare to challenge them now?

A single figure was silhouetted by the flames of the burning village behind. The red light glinted off a steel glaive, recently stained with blood. Horns rose over the otherwise humanoid head and two tails swished back and forth like an enraged tiger.

"The ghosts of the fallen would challenge you," a young but fierce voice answered. "They would have justice, and I am here to provide it. None of you will leave this clearing alive."
