Elections matter.

And this is what happens to all those people who spent five years doing Social Studies instead of something that might be useful to society. Nice work.

Do you guys have any idea what a bad shape are national intelligence is in? Its a horrifying wreck with the other countries beating us! And its all because of things like this that trash-talk education. The Texas Republican party even declared that they were against the teaching of "critical thinking skills". Say what you will about me but educationally, we need all the help we can get!

Sort of, Β I have extra monitoring regarding crediting my photo sources. Β  But Β DA admin does not need to formally censor. Β  There is the pervasive, tacit endorsement of all abuse directed at conservative opinions. Β The tolerant Liberal community is very tolerant of bigotry, hate and abuse directed at people who disagree with them. Β Most conservatives on DA learn quickly that their views are not welcome and they just keep things to themselves for fear of rabid trolls.

Libs are always claiming to report me to DA. Β I have no idea if they follow through. Β I have not noticed that my detractors are in any way fettered.

To their credit, DA did terminate a phony acct with a similar name which was started by a troll. Β Frankly, if I was not a paying member I would probably be banned. Β I suspect that if I behaved the same as my detractors then they would ban me.

Busoni In reply to Conservatoons [2012-09-19 06:41:58 +0000 UTC]

Are you implying the military members who are injured over seas are on welfare afterwards? That's insanely disrespectful. Most people consider welfare the word for financial assistance for poor ( typically lazy ) people...disability is what you call assistance when the person legitimately needs the help and deserves it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Conservatoons In reply to Busoni [2012-09-20 04:34:46 +0000 UTC]

Just because you do deserve it does not change the fact that it is govt largesse.

If you deserve it, fine. If you don't, you are a thief. If you simply find it a convenience, then you are lazy.

It's a shame that happens. I may be going on disability temporarily though, because I have aspergers and it has really hampered my efforts in getting a job. Right now I am learning how to do interviews properly so I can actually net a job even in this economy, and there are other things that can help. I really don't want to have to go on any sort of welfare again. It's humiliating. I may have a form of depression as well from all the deaths I had to deal with at a young age. Having a job again would help so much.

I actually have aspergers too, and I worked with a job coach to practice my skills to get a job. currently I work at Bk, but it's a decent job. you might want to look into programs that help those with developmental disabilities, they have people who can train with you, mine did in the beginning. sorry to butt in, it just is similar to what my problem was so I thought i'd drop in. unfortunately, I do still have welfare in the form of foodstamps, since I technically am a family of one.

Having a job always helps... unless you are a Democrat. Then it cut down on your benefits.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Busoni In reply to Conservatoons [2012-09-19 06:46:31 +0000 UTC]

I'm a democrat, and I also have a severe spinal issue that I've been advised to collect assistance for. I refuse to do this. I am also 6 months pregnant, and steadily working as I have since I was a young child. I can get out of bed with enough help from my husband, and that means I can work.

I have known plenty of redneck conservatives who have massive trucks and plenty of beer money, and a convenient back injury to pay for it all. I hate knowing my tax dollars goes to them as much as you hate knowing your tax dollars goes to lazy democrats. Shitty people are on both sides, no need to assume the whole party is one way.

Conservatoons In reply to Busoni [2012-09-20 04:32:02 +0000 UTC]

True. But Democrats are the entitlement party. Obama is running of a platform of "I'll give you more free stuff." Romney is saying: "I can do a better job than Obama and I can fix this mess."

Benefits are nice, but I don't want to be a tax burden. I want to be able to get a regular job and not have to deal with harassment or people just behaving weirdly towards me after awhile. When you have aspergers, you learn to expect friends to turn on you for no reason.

I go to Michigan State University. Started out as a Geology major, but once I realized I couldn't swing it in the math/physics/chem, I switched to Liberal Arts.
Naturally, I understand that my College of Arts and Letters is a national joke to people. So, with that in mind, I'm dual majoring in German, and emphasizing the employable fields of an English degree, such as Technical Writing and Editing. Also, I'll be joining the Marines after school, in order to, a) serve my country, and b) enhance my resume in order to get a job.

Unfortunately, a large amount of Liberal Arts majors refuse to seek out advantageous avenues of scholastic/extracurricular opportunity. While this obviously facilitates a successful career, the lazy and unmotivated coast through a six-year program and, ultimately, complain at the doorsteps of the motivated masses.

Conservatoons In reply to Subbie-Overlord [2012-07-12 18:12:57 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. This is a broad brush. Let's face it though, many folks think that they are owed a lucrative living simply for graduating. There "skills" need not be marketable or valuable to others but since they feel good about themselves and have a degree then society owes them. I blame much of the willful blindness about their economic future in the ed system itself which stresses ed for ed's sake and does not look at the demand for poets, history teachers, womens' studies, potters, phys eds, etc...

And here's the kicker: Many fast food chains have it in place that they CAN'T hire college graduates as cashiers, fry cooks, etc. in order to give the 'little folks' a chance. In this terrible economy I've applied at McDonald's despite my Associate's Degree in Business Administration (Which, evidently, don't mean SQUAT without any field experience to back it up), but I've been turned away because I'm 'overqualified'. Seems these days a college education can hurt you more than help you.

I might be a bit off-topic but I spotted a interesting rant on the City-Data forums at [link] by a guy nicknamed movestoomuch, I quoted an exterpt:"I'm also a big proponent of technical schools. Whether they be for cosmotology, dental assisting, computers, food services, graphic design, etc. Not everyone is cut out for the college grind. And many children don't have parents at home to help them learn the skills they need to achieve a high enough ACT or SAT score to get into college. Not to mention being able to pay for continuing education."

Which it's funny because most of the 'little folks' don't want to work fast food because "it's beneath them", which it's apparently more noble to accept handouts from the government rather than earn the money themselves.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't, since that college education could help you in the future, but it's useless when you're in uncertain times for the economy.

Actually there are stories of people starting as cashiers and cooks at McDonalds. Through dedication, hard work and about a decade of learning how a business is ran, a person can become a McDonald's Franchise Owner and practically be set for life.
