Read Dave Barry's biography, "Dave Barry turns 50". I learned a lot from that book! It technically classifies as a humor book, but it gives such a beautiful recollection of the late 1940's to the early 1970's from the eyes of someone who was actually there. He was even at Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech! He talks about how he held hands with many people, black and white, and sang "We Shall Overcome", even though he met a black guy who "assured me that no one was going to overcome anything".

You sure have a stubborn opinion, don't you? I'm ok with right-wingers, but I'm not ok with some of the persecution complex and snobbishness that comes with it for some.
If you actually did your research on hippies, you'd know in their heyday (ie 60s/70s) they gave people who didn't have rights rights, and they went against the strict conventions of the days which were mostly patriarchal and religious bullshit, they also believed in free-thought. It's not all drugs and flowers you know. Although that was part of it because they wanted to piss off people like you by freaking people out. I admire the moxie they once had. I'm not a hippie, perhaps half a hippie, but I admire some of their historical actions. Also your parent/parents when they were teenagers=most likely a hippie/did hippie things because that was what the young people used to get into. I wouldn't be surprised if my Mum or Dad had a bit of weed, it doesn't mean I'm going to do it myself (anti-drugs) but my Dad was a total hippie and I respect him, he loves to help out the environment.

First of all I live in the US so of course I heard of capitalism.
Second as a Libertarian Socialist i'm against authoritarian socialism/ communism. That includes Mao's China, North Korea (which isn't actually communist anymore) and The Soviet Union. I admire the soviet Union in the beginning for Lenin's land reforms, the ok mentality to homosexuality and how it freed the people from the czar's tyranny. Stalins USSR on the other had is something that I utterly hate.
Also saying "I'm all for freedom of speech except communists" is basically saying "I'm not racist but...." Freedom of speech is for everyone, our freedom of speech in the nation has protected the most vile and horrible neo nazi right to talk. In the 50 Josef Mcarthy made veryone who didn't agree blindly with what the US was doing a Communist and jail Socialists and Communist because their political views. That is exactly against the constitution, and in my mind Mcarthy should have been put in jail for going against the constitution or at lease kicked from office.
Like it or not there will be Socialists and Communists in the nation. In fact there a Democratic Socialist running for president, Bernie Sanders. He's my man and he is the best man for the American Working class.
