Description Holloywood ledgend, Ed Asner has sadley passed away on sunday morning as confermed by his publisist on CNN. Asner has been known for playing his role as Lou Grant in The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977), and the spin off series, The Lou Grant Show (1977-1982), along with playing as Santa Clause in the Christmas Film Elf (2003), and last but not least, performing as Carl Fredrickson from the Disney Film Up (2009). Seen as a veterain of chicago's comedy theater scene, Asner was part of the compass players, and was a noted character actor before landing the role of the character Lou Grant in The Mary Tyler Show. Asner had won several Emmy Awards for his performance as the character grant, along with 3 for "best supporting actor in a comedy series" for The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and 2 for "lead actor in a drama" for The Lou Grant Show, He also won Emmys for his work in the 1976 mini-series, Rich Man, Poor Man and the 1977 miniseries Roots. After Lou Grant's cancelation, Asner continued his work in telivision and movies, like Modern Family, ER, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The X-Files, and many more. Asner's insperation for acting had came to be back when he listened to weekly radio programs at his high school, in Kansas City, Missouri. Asner had used to be head of the Screen Actors Guild from 19881 to 1985 and was never afraid about addressing Democratic candidates and liberal causes and seldom shied from a debate. With another legend taken away from us this year, we must take the time to cherish all the wonderful years they've given to all of us, and thank thank for what they had given to the world. May you Rest in Peace, Ed Asner.
