Description
Simon lead the way back to the event plaza. I lingered behind a little. I was still kinda hanging my head in shame and didn’t want to be seen in these clothes, especially by my new assistant. Speaking of which, Isabelle was stood there talking to a fox who had set up a booth of some sort.
“Mayor!” she exclaimed once she noticed me “You… arrived…”
We stared at each other in silence for a moment. I think the sudden burst of orange in her line of sight must have broken her.
“…so, how did it go at the Able—”
“Fireworks, huh?” I asked “When are we setting them off?”
“Oh! Any moment now!” she said, excitedly “Would you like to buy a sparkler from Redd? He sets up shop here every now and then and always helps out with the fireworks show.”
“I’m kinda broke right now” I admitted. If I had pockets, I’d turn them out as proof.
“I’ll buy us some” said Simon “It’s on me!” He handed one to me and then offered one to Isabelle, who used her clipboard as an excuse to say that her hands were full.
“I think the show’s about to begin!” she said, causing everyone there to hush down in anticipation.
A suspenseful silence filled the air, until out of nowhere a rocket shot up into the sky and exploded into a beautiful barrage of colours. The residents clapped and cheered for each dazzling display. I just sorta watched them in silence; it had been a long, long, long day. Part of me was saying: “just relax and enjoy the night!” the other was practically screaming “FIND A WAY HOME ALREADY!!”. I decided to listen to the first voice in my head. I mean, sure, I’m lost and confused freezing my butt off in this dress but look… pretty lights!! Besides, these animal folk aren’t so bad. It might take a while for me to get used to them but Simon’s a cool dude, and Isabelle’s nice, I guess.
I’m not kidding though, I really am cold stood here with nothing covering my arms or legs. How long is this show supposed to last again?
~Author’s Notes~
I think it’s so lucky that my first day co-aligned with the first fireworks show of the year in Place. It’s given the event a lot of sentimentality for me, and I never miss it whenever another year rolls around.
Before anyone points it out: yes, I know Isabelle usually doesn’t wear her uniform during this, but trust me, this was intentional, you’ll see…
