Meeko is a shapeshifter like the many generations of his family before him.
I like to view shifting as like clothes. His coonuki form is his most comfortable outfit. It fits perfectly, the texture is nice, and it just feels good to wear. That's because it was the form he was born in. Other forms may feel too tight or too scratchy and although he can shift into them, sometimes he can get a little uncomfortable wearing them for certain periods. A fox is his second most comfortable 'outfit'. It was the first thing he learned to shift into and he's proud of it!
