Description I'm working on a series of pictures of the horsebreed Tarpan, an extinct breed that humans now try to recreate. Every tarpan horse I draw are characters I own on another site. Tis guy, I think, looks a whole lot lika an icelandic horse. Doesn't matter. When they tried to recreate the breed they crossed konik horses with amongst others - icelandic horses. I think he has kind eyes and the scanning didn't mess up the colours too bad.

Beautiful! That left fore is bent a little strangely, but other than that, absolutely beautiful! At first sight, i knew it was either a Tarpan or a Konik. You draw really well!

I drew anatomy of the picture fully at first, hooves and all. Had the grass not been in the way you'd see the left leg isn't fully in the ground, rather - this is the moment when the horse is just starting to walk from a standstill, when he is kind of leaning into the walk and this is were his weight is distribuated so that he has to take one step forward not to loose balance. It looked perfecly logic until the grass plain was added. Then, as you say, it looked a bit, well, strange.

OMYFREAKINGOD!! The muscles are very nicely done and the shading. The pose is great too!! GOTTA FAV!

I think It looks more like Shetland pony because of the bushy mane and tail and the skinnier legs, but I can see the Icelandic part too

Thank you!
I disagree about the shetland as I think it'd had to have shorter legs, rounder belly and a nobler head. Kind of like a welsh corgie dog. However, if I get the time for it amongst my many other projects, I'd love to draw such pic of a shetland pony. The'd be lovely in such setting!

....hold on... or are you talking about the american shetland pony? In which case I can see the point as the american shetlander is much more horsie in it's built and much less dwarfish. ...

Actually most ponies look alike to me, but yeah shetlands would be shorter and have rounder bellies D:
