The Art Of The Game - 1

If you haven't guessed it by looking through my gallery, I have somewhat of an obsession with playing cards. I have a collection spanning over 100 decks, ranging from the standard decks we see all the time, up to the rarest decks valued at over $100 a pop. I love cards, but I don't just love them for the looks, I love what you can do with them. With a set of skilled hands, you can create small miracles that baffle the eyes, and can confuse even a trained eye. Magicians, gamblers, cheats, and con-men at heart all share a passion for the artistry you can create with your hands and a deck of cards, so much so that they created a new term for it; Cardistry - The artistic manipulation or movement of a deck of cards.

While I am no expert, or even an advanced practitioner of the card arts, I have a love obsession that causes my hands to constantly be holding a deck, constantly shuffling and cutting. Constantly running through every flourish I know, every slight of hand, every single move and trick, just to one day be able to call myself an artist with the cards. These photos all show the various skills I have learned in my time, including the simple and mundane acts such as shuffling, dealing, cutting the deck, etc.

The first photo is one of my favorites, and one I didn't think I would be able to capture. The move I am in the middle of is called a Sybil Cut, it is a type of flourish often used to look like I am mixing up the deck by cutting, but often the cards remain in the same order, or at least the top or bottom card. This is on of my favorite flourishes, and the only one I can do consistently well. And taking the photo was quite difficult, as I did not use a timer and no one was there to help. I used a remote trigger along with with teeth. Its nice to have learned it can handle getting a bit wet and still work.
