Description “The 9:14 express train is operating approximately 15 minutes late due to inclement weather.”

You huffed in annoyance as the prerecorded train station audio droned on about delays. First it said five minutes, then ten, and now 15. If it ended up being an hour late you wouldn’t be surprised.

You were taking the train to visit an old high school friend while she was in the area. Although the two of you hadn’t met up in years, you still kept in touch through the occasional text message. It was always hard to get a hold of your friend, though. However, she was in from Tokyo to visit family, and the two of you made plans to have lunch together that day. She sounded good on the phone, but her stories always made her life sound a little too hectic for your taste.

Unlike your friend, you weren’t very interested in big parties or crazy nights out on the town. Instead you chose to live a quieter life. You worked as an editor for a publishing company in Tokyo, but chose to live outside of the city, finding it too frenzied in the city.

It’s not that you didn’t like human interaction; you were actually quite extroverted when someone got you started on a topic you were passionate about. You were just shy.

As your mind wondered about how your friend was doing, the train finally pulled up to the station. It was a Tuesday, so the car was nearly empty. The only unavailable seat seemed to be taken up by someone with spiky hair (or at least that’s what it looked like, you couldn’t see the person’s face).

However, that person spotted you from across the train car. Immediately he was drawn to your adorable figure. Everything about you looked cute, from your casually styled hair to the calm look on your face. Even your cellphone charm screamed adorable to the boy, who was none other than Nishinoya Yuu.

But one of the most attractive things about you off that bat was definitely your height. Much to your dismay you were pretty short. You normally wore small heels or wedges to compensate, but today you wanted to be comfortable, so you had chosen a pair of simple flats instead.
You walked down the aisle between the rows of seats, trying to choose the best place to sit. As you
passed his seat the boy spoke up.

“Hey! Do you want to sit with me?”

Before thinking, you responded with a quiet “no thank you” and a bow. Quickly you continued your search down the train car.

As you took a seat (far away from the spiky-haired boy) you thought over his question. Maybe you had misheard him, why else would he have been so forward? As you pondered this a shadow came across your seat. You looked up to see the same boy standing in front of you.

“So do you what me to sit with you?”

Before you could respond the boy took a place in the adjoining seat, holding out his hand to introduce himself.

“I’m Nishinoya Yuu, by the way” he said, which a small but proud smile on his face.

“I’m  (l/n) (f/n)…?” you stated with a questioning tone. This entire situation puzzled you.

“So… why are you taking the train?”

For a few moments you simply looked at the boy with a questioning glance. He was just getting adjusted to his new seat. Although this guy was an absolute stranger you chose to tell him everything. About your friend, your lunch plans, and even your career. In return he told you all about himself.

Turns out you two were the same age and had a few things in common. He was taking the train to visit his parents for the week. Aside from that, Nishinoya told you about his hobbies and interests with a never ending stream of jokes that made you laugh.

No one had ever made you feel so comfortable in such a short amount to time, and you found yourself saddened when the train pulled into the final station.

You pouted, “I guess we have to split ways.”

“Not if you don’t want to.”

Nishinoya wrapped a small slip of paper into your hand.

“I hope to see you again sometime!”

The boy offered you a huge smile before going your separate ways.

You uncrumpled the sheet of paper to find his number scribbled in with several hearts and smiley faces. You chuckled as you looked in the direction that he went.

See you soon, Nishinoya.
