Height: Human - 6'6" / Bat - 8'0"-ish.

Age: Looks about 45/50, but was born in the 1880s.

Species: Halfblood-werebat.

Rank: Currently none.

Race/Ethnicity: White - British ancestry. Born in New York, but has only a slight accent. Eyes are a pale-blue and appear blind.

Family: The entire van Rook family (with the exception of Hugo, of course) is deceased; most of them having beed killed by a werewolf gang in the late 1930s.

Likes: Music (particularly classical); the preforming-arts; tea/coffee; quiet afternoons; rainy days; old books; his typewriter; his piano, cello, and violin; sketching; gadgets and other random stuff from the 1850s-to-1940s; trolling people; wearing two-tone, wingtip Oxfords.

Dislikes: Large amounts of noise (with the exception of most music); modern technology; people he doesn't approve of messing with his belongings; fluorescent lightbulbs; anyone who gets in the way of his plans; other were-creatures; hunters; anyone who hurts Belle [link] .

Personality: In two words -- incredibly nonchalant. Not many things interest Hugo, unless it's about music. He'd rather just play the piano or read all day. When something does catch his interest, he shows the same level of enthusiasm as Doctor Who would, albeit not as loquaciously. He comes off as the friendly ol' uncle type, but isn't usually the first to greet someone. If you totally ignore him, he doesn't mind, since he often does the same. He enjoys trolling people, and sometimes being trolled back, and enjoys playing with children. He needs to wear glasses for reading, but refuses to wear them around other people. He doesn't mind comments on his appearance of blindness (because of his clouded eyes), but don't talk about his glasses. He's not easy to anger, but he's very good at hiding what he's really feeling behind a charming smile if he intends to get you back for it -- acting as though he's not bothered in the slightest. If he beaks this facade, then you've really PO-ed him. Ironically, if he's acting annoyed, you're in the clear because he's not truly cross with you. It's all backwards. Also, watch out for sarcasm. He excels at it.

Ever since his family was murdered by a gang of werewolves in the late 1930s in an underground werewolf/gang-war in New York, he's been harboring a deep hatred for other were-creatures, but werewolves in particular, and wishes to wipe them off the face of the Earth, along with any other ghastly creature that roams the world. This does not mean he won't harm Hunters. After all, various Hunters have been responsible for a number of deaths in the van Rook family. He won't go out of his way to hunt them down, but if any dare set one foot in his way, he will end them. Or at least give them a warning they won't forget.

The only person Hugo's ever truly cared about is Belle Connors, a werewolf he was charged with looking after. He and the Connors had been good friends for many years, and Belle's parents knew of his werebat-bloodline, so when Belle was bitten, they turned to him for help. He's been training her in controlling her lycan-form for a few years now. Having known Belle practically all of her life, his hatred of werewolves does not apply to her, seeing her case as more of an illness that needs to be cured than a monster that needs to be destroyed. She sees him as an uncle, but over the years has come to look at him as a best friend who happens to be decades older than her. It's not unusual to see them trolling each other like a bunch of kids. He has, over the years, developed feelings for her, but can't see the two of them being anything more than friends. He's vowed to help her find a cure, as he can't stand to see her unhappy.

Occupation: Piano-teacher. He gives lessons to people of all ages. Since moving to Romania, though, he's been working at an old bookshop.

Abilities/fighting-style: Unnaturally quick healing, super-stregth, and a fabulous sense of hearing; all of which bleed into his human-form. He likes to stretch out his wings for intimidation, which usually works on humans and faint-hearted were-creatures. Like all werebats, he tries to avoid close combat because of his wings. The wings are stronger than they look, but obviously susceptible to tearing. He keeps his wings folded while fighting on the ground, and prefers to use his teeth, as a canine would. Fore-talons are for gripping, while back-talons are used in-flight for slashing. Hugo really has no "style" in combat, instead changing tactics to fit each opponent. One of his only consistent maneuvers is to stalk from the shadows until the time is right to strike -- swiftly and silently, being unnaturally quick and agile for his size. His only other ability is his extremely high-pitched screech. If you're within even a few feet of his mouth when he screeches, it could deafen you for hours; but he needs only a few seconds to finish the job. This is his favorite tactic.

Weaknesses: Wolfsbane acts as a mild poison, not being as effective on him as it is on werewolves, but it's still enough to put him under the weather for a number of days. Silver hurts like hell and is difficult to heal, hence the scars on his left thigh. His eye-sight isn't the best in human-form, and he refuses to wear glasses around others, but it's worse in bat-form. Distinguishing between light and dark isn't a problem, but everything else is a big blur. His wings are a problem in close combat as aforementioned. In order to use any of his screeches, he has to close up his ears when a call is emitted to avoid deafening himself, not that many have been able to use that to their advantage.

Notes (will add more as I think of them):

- Hugo wears a ring that acts as a storage-device for his clothing during his transformations.

- The tattoo on his left shoulder is worn by every male member of the van Rook family.

- He served as a guard on Alcatraz during the 40s and 50s. Only the warden knew of his powers. Hugo's one of the reasons no one ever escaped the island.

About RP interactions and art: Hugo is straight. I shouldn't have to specify that, but, you know, we have to be oh so politically-correct these days. Also, he's is against cohabitation. Hands off unless you're his wife. Flirting with him is fine, but anything past a good ol' snogging is a no-no. He's also not interested in a serious relationship at the moment.
