Description Father's Day is on Sunday so this is my gift to my dad. He really admires grouses and this is his favorite member of them, the wood grouse. In Finnish called "metso". I used only watercolors here.

Wooo, thank you so much my friend!! ^u^

Nice to hear some feedback that those are your favorite ones, I actually like them a lot too, because I put quite a lot effort for example to the #27 and #22 (the amount of details take some time and thinking, haha).

Yes, his birthday and Fathers Day are usually the bird appreciation days for me, because I like to draw birds to him as present. XD
Thanks! I'm glad the watercolors look good, haven't used them in a while so nice to hear that it still works out and I haven't lost my touch.

Now that sounds like a desk I wanna see, though a criticism would be.... to add more birds haha. There can never be enough birds

Thats so cool

Its impressive how you were able to add so precise details with water colors.

I really like the variation of the colors in here. I also like how you merged the background into it without overlaying the bird ^^

Nice. I really like it

Corppu In reply to Jadago-Art [2019-11-10 15:32:30 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!
I use a pretty small brush, so it gives very detailed line, like writing with a pencil. Then it of course needs some focusing, and that hand won't shake a bit. XD
I painted the bird first so it gave the right feel how the background should look like, I imagined myself to look at that scenery and thought carefully what things I should include there/where the wood grouse might actually live. I like to use a lot of colors when I paint. It's also wise to leave a lot of white space so it doesn't look so crowded.Β  Nice to hear that the finished work pleases the eye! ^^

You are welcome ^^

Ah, drawing with a fine brush sounds like alot of work and a strong will to prevent your hand from start shaking

I have actually never tried brushes (I don't know why) but I can imagine that small brushes are similar to ink or a pencils with the additional fun of random drops of colored water messung up the whole work at the very end xD

I guess it took alot of patience and time to finish this? How long did you need to get it done?

Hmm yea it makes sense to start with the bird first and then go on with the background. However I like it xD And yes it pleases the eye

Corppu In reply to Jadago-Art [2019-11-12 11:38:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, no coffee before painting is done! XD

Brushes are pretty similar to ink/pencils, and it's fun to mix the colors yourself and if you use less water then the result is very sharp, for example if you're doing eyelashes for characters then you just quickly tip the brush to the color palette. And if you want to make rain, you can splash the water drops on paper and let them dry. The colors also look more deep before drying, so after it you sometimes need to add some more colors and layers.

I'm pretty quick with traditional art, so this took about 2,5-3 hours to make (15-30 minutes sketching and the rest painting, usually I also add some markers, but now I didn't want to make it too complicated).

Yes, it's recommended to do some background before, if you want to make a clear sky view to the painting (the paper needs to be wet). But I did it this way, because I want to focus on the main event, the bird.
Thank a lot again! ^^

Ah I totally forgot to respond xD

Hmm sound like you have a lot of variables when drawing with brush. I guess while coloring or creating transparent effects, this will be the best to chose.

You are quite quick with sketching. I usually take forever just to get started. sketching takes me, no matter what tools I use, almost 1 - 2 hours xD. I so envy you for that.

Hmm ok. I would have thought the same. Surely using brushes will need the main part to be drawn first, but since it needs some hints of the perspective you wanna draw, starting with the background would also be helpful. I guess it can become quite difficult when you have no hints at all. Well, but I guess you made this without any difficulties

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Corppu In reply to Jadago-Art [2019-11-18 18:21:40 +0000 UTC]

That's okay XD

Yeah, it's also fun to just try out something and see how it looks like.

It's good to focus on the sketching, it makes the rest of the work so much easier. And you will get faster on it when you draw more and more, then you're doing some processes automatically when you memorise the patterns.

Yup, it depends, if there's going to be more details in the background then it needs more careful planning on the perspective part, here I dodged the bullet because the scenery is kinda soft and inexact

Jadago-Art In reply to Corppu [2019-11-18 23:19:16 +0000 UTC]

True ^^

Well well, it seems you got alot of skills when it comes to drawing with different tools.

I guess I'm stuck with the digital drawings these days. But I also have so many things on my list I wanna do and try that I can't decide sometimes xD

Anyway. Keep on with those nice drawings. I really enjoy them ^^

Corppu In reply to Jadago-Art [2019-11-19 10:34:10 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah - I just try to make something nice with the tools I have...

Digital tools & drawing programs take so much time from me, so I always delay to use them, but I definitely should try them out too. X3
Thank you so much for your support! Β

Jadago-Art In reply to Corppu [2019-11-19 17:26:38 +0000 UTC]

You are so welcome. I get some encouragement to try out different things on my own, while seeing your art

And yea, digital tools take a lot of time. You can also loose time just because your PC don't have a fitting driver for your drawing pad (happened to me a few weeks ago) which is quite frustrating because it has nothing to do with actual drawing xD

Corppu In reply to Jadago-Art [2019-11-26 13:14:29 +0000 UTC]

Aaw, that's so nice to hear - so let's continue our good work then!

Oooo, that's bad! x( PainToolSai also crashes sometimes, so it's real nerve-wracking if you just lost everything and haven't saved in a while.

Jadago-Art In reply to Corppu [2019-11-26 18:30:41 +0000 UTC]

True.

And dang xD That happened to me too but in different ways. While drawing hair I use the finger tool alot... And there is only a limited number of the undo function >.<

Anyway. Lets stick with keeping up with our work then xD As I said, I'm a little bit stuck with digital tools right now. But if it's not fun anymore I will change xD

Oh no, that's bad! X( Damn that undo-button sometimes, that has happened to me in some photo editing tools as well.

Yeah, of course! It's great that there's variation and different options to choose from.

Ooohh, kiwis are super cute!! Of course I can make more of those adorable little birdies <3 they're one of my favorites as well! You're so lucky to have kiwis around you <3 My friend traveled to New Zealand and was living/working there almost a year if I remember correctly - she sent me a kiwi postcard once and I was so happy!

I like kiwis as fruit too, haha!

Wrenj In reply to Corppu [2019-11-26 19:30:39 +0000 UTC]

They are pretty adorable! ^^
I wish i did have kiwi around me. They are a protected, rare and endangered species of bird, so I don’t get to see them very often. I think quite a few of em are kept and raised in sanctuaries and such, away from potential danger! ^^

Kiwi fruit are delicious!! >u<

Corppu In reply to Wrenj [2019-11-30 10:07:33 +0000 UTC]

Yep! ^^

Oh, I didn't know that the situation is that bad... I have only seen them in nature documents so I didn't have a clue they're so endangered atm (but of course they're relatives of dodo so what should I expect - poor little things <3). But it's lovely that they take good care of the birds in sanctuaries, it warms my heart. ^^

Yeah, so yummy! It's fun when you eat a lot of them and tongue tickles for a while - and the kiwi sorbet is soooo goooodd *drool*.

Haha, yeah! That reminds me when my dad told me a story about an old man who had not eaten a kiwi fruit before and he didn't know it should be cut in half or peeled before eating... he just ate it straight! And he mentioned that "this is fruit is... pretty hairy!"

Wrenj In reply to Corppu [2019-12-13 12:14:09 +0000 UTC]

Yup >,< but at least everyone is working to making things better for them! ^^

I like to cut the fruit in half and scoop the fruit out of the skin with a spoon! Though, i’ve eaten the fruit straight like the man in the story, due to laziness! X’D
